Sigh.. Mondays generally suck, not just for me but for the many, today none-the-less was special.. I was in meetings all morning I get back to my desk.. (ive got a desk job) there is my phone.. 4 missed calls and 2 msg's from SWMBO... **** this cant be good, never rings me at work.. messages quick... reads

I forgot to plug your heatpad back in last night... what do you want me to do?

excrement.

Fortunatly my FG was reached about 3 days ago so Im not too worried about that, but I WAS planning on having it at temp for a week on the cake before racking and CC for 1 week.. unsure if I should bring it back from 14-15 back to 18 only to crash it, at 14 ive assumed the little yeasties will have gone to sleep and therefor will be doing no cleaning up at all?

very stressful day..

what should I do?

any advice greatly appreciated and outside power point imminent
:icon_cheers:

edit: yep US-05.. sorry

i think it depends on the yeast strain most pommies will be snoring but us-05 could still be working slowly.

I would just crash the primary, rack to corny condition for a further week at 1c, then carb, thats how I do all my ales

If it had finished then it's not a problem as it's only conditioning and cleaning up. I'd even chill before racking just so you get most of the yeast to drop in the primary. Any reason for CC for a week?

I leave my brews on the cake for a bit before CC but if the temp is lowering below ferment temps I don't stress. I figure the yeast will still do their clean up and they seem to. Don't worry.

Even if FG hadn't been reached you could still kick it back into action anyway. If she'd turned it on at the wrong time or left it on too long at the wrong time (early ferment) that would be a much bigger issue.

I say just leave it there at whatever temp, which obviously wont be that high at this time of year. It's finished, so no concerns about esters, it'll prolly be at a high enough temp to clean up a bit, so I reckon leave it for a few days the do the CC thing. Honestly I don't think you'll notice much difference either way if you can keep it at or below (or even a few degrees higher) than the ferment temp. I think SWMBO might have even done you a favour. Only my 2c of course

If it was me, depending on the mood I was in, I'd either carry on as normal (i.e. bring it back to ferment temp, or a touch higher as HB79 said, and leave it for a few days) or just jump straight to conditioning.

I wouldn't worry at all, relax... don't stress.... I just fermented an ale using US-05 in the mid to low teens without a problem.

If my wifey had turned the heat pad off last night.....my brew wouldve bloody frozen....-4 in the shed last night

And the funny thing is that in Australia that would be breaking the law. At least if you pulled the ice out of it.

As Charlie would say
relax
don't worry
have a homebrew
she'll be fine
probably turn out the best brew you ever made
my 2c

The moral of the story..... Don't let your missus into the brewery!... unless she is a brewer.

In fact don't rely on your missus for anything that is important to you. She will use it to punish you. Law 1 of marriage.

Stack 'em 10 high at the tip!

Sorry for the :icon_offtopic:

+1 - anything you do or say will be used against you. Anything she does or says in your favour will be used as amunition or punishment.

Thanks guys,

it's reassuring to hear such sound advice.

Ive slowly raised the temp last night to 16 and will leave for a few more days to clean itself. Then to Cold Condition for a week.

Many on-going thanks
