I've got a pound of these to try and the do smell delicious but I cant see many recipes for them.

I'm doing a few brews today and have decided to replace them for the Saaz. Has anyone else had anything to do with them and how do you think these recipes look.

LCBA is B-saaz, a new zealand hop which is quite different to czech saaz. Also known as motueka I believe, a much better name than b saaz or saaz b.

I found this description on another site; "'Sonnet' hops are from the farm in Oregon that provides our Amarillo hops. Sonnet are a Saaz variant with Goldings characteristics, so expect high floral aroma and soft, golden bitterness".

The few comments I've just read from brewers who have used them suggest they are Goldings-like but more Stryian rather than East Kent. The brewers seemed to be suggesting that it's best use may be in your English style beers. So, as Manticle pointed out, the recipe you have uses Motueka which is quite a different flavour to the hops often used in English beers.

As you have them ready to go, I don't see why the recipe won't work. It won't be as Tony intended with the original recipe but if the descriptions of Sonnet are on the money I think the recipe you've listed could come out very tasty.

Thanks all I never even thought of that as have been using Ellerslie Saaz hops and thought saaz was Saaz the only info on the pack is Saaz 3.4%. Didn't realize there where to types.

The sonnet hops are from that farm, I wasn't planning to use them until I had read up on them some more but Australian Customs punched a hole in the N Brewer and Sonnet bags for testing.

Taking the sniff test these do smell far better then the saaz.

There's a few different types of hop with the name saaz. Czech saaz is the original and one of the four European noble hops. Generally floral/grass.

B saaz and d saaz are both New Zealand hops that have their genetic origins in saaz but are quite different hops. Much fruitier.

As goo suggested you will probably make a great beer - just don't expect Tony's LCBA or a typical bo pils.
