Personally I prefer to be able to see through the hose, but seems like a good cheaper alternative if that doesn't worry you.

Cheers Ross

I bought a metre a few weeks back,it's almost too expensive to justify these days. I'm on the look-out for an alternative, or perhaps import my own.

I'm in. Let me know the cost and when :)

The iBrew stuff seem to be only useable for moving liquid within the inner of the tube since the supplier said that the outer tubeing may smell a bit which suggests it will also leach bad stuff.

I need to submerge a tube into the hot wort and then transfer it out to a cube so i think the silicone heat resistant hosing is what i need. the problem is that the website says it comes in 1 meter lengths and i need 2 or even 3 meters.

Does anyone know where i can get the same tube in lengths greater than 1 m.

Thanks

No it's the price per meter ,,, Ross cuts to any length from a roll ...

Cheers

Answered this myself by calling them. Yes you can get lengths in what you want just have to state it in the purchase notes.

Sort of makes you wonder what the HB community was doing before the advent of silicone hose.

I suppose you could call it personal preference.

Personally myself I am the same way. But for a big saving I could be persuaded.

If seeing the flow of liquid is what you mean, surely looking at the end of the hose would be a better bet though...?

tumi2, I can't be 100% sure but the smell referred to in that email sounds like its just a rubber smell. That won't hurt you one bit, and I highly doubt you'd get any flavours from it if immersed in some wort for a short period of time. That said, I think these ibrew hoses are most ideally suited as transfer hoses. I reckon next time I need hose for the brewery that's what I will get.

Why is that Ross?

I cannot speak for Ross, but I like to be able to see the wort recirculating in my RIMS, I can see whether any bits of grain/husk are getting past the false bottom, can see the wort clarity whilst batch sparging etc. When transferring from kettle I can see how much trub/hops might be getting transferred to the fermenter.

Yeah fair enough. I use PVC tubing on my 25L system, which is perfectly clear, and I do like the fact I can see any grain husks that are coming through during the sparge. Having said that, I use silicone hose on my bigger 150L system and I don't have a hope of seeing grain bits through it, as its quite opaque. I can see whether there is liquid in the hose but that's about it...

I have introduced a light duty silicone hose for $7.95 per meter and hope to be able to reduce the price of the heavy duty hose in the future when I reorder (if the ozzie dollar keeps its end up).

I use the Ibrew hose almost exclusively and have never had any off flavour leach into my beer. The inner hose is what you need to be concerned with which is food grade and heat tolerent.

Cheers,

JJ

I bought a metre of 10mm OD silicone tubing yesterday and was floored at the price of $21.00. from Brierly hose and fitting specialist. Food grade reinforced PVC at $3.00 seems to be a better proposition which I used for the rest of my setup.
