So I showed my "friends" and they didn't care :( So I thought I'd show you guys.. even if you don't care either.

nah that was a holiday snap when i was in Hawaii last month.. going through the photos, reliving old memories.

I'm drinking hoptimum right now, its like sucking on a hop cone :icon_drool2:

cheers steve

I got to admit Matho, I thought the alcohol flavour dominated the hops a bit.. I would love to try this beer somewhere sub 10 %.

and here are some of their friends..

..that was an interesting day/arvo/evening..

Last drink and photo of the night, alone on a secluded spot at Waikiki beach (don't tell the fuzz)..

5 minutes later I was approached by a real twitchy dude offering me a pound of the good stuff for a thousand.. subsequently, I gave him the rest of the sam adams (which I wasn't enjoying) and got the **** out of there.

Where did you stay? I went over to Hawaii mid year and it was fantastic. I stayed right across from the Taphouse (100 taps) :*)

Oooh. I can play this game! Lucky enough to have one of Australias best bottle shops only a 10 minute drive from my place. This is a selection of what we had a few weeks ago @ a BBQ. Some of these were huge beers, it's odd when you drink the Torpedo IPA and go, hmm.. that's a nice, well balanced beer, not too hoppy either.

What was the SN barleywine like?
The bigfoot ale was.. very alcoholic. I'm sorry i can't give good tasting notes as I was pretty drunk and had a few beers that day. I remember thinking that it's not really my style. Alcohol forward, medium maltiness, mild hops. A bit out of balance I thought but i'm not really into massive alcohol beers. Although, I was drinking it pretty fresh and I think at 9.6% it needs some age.

I'll let you more when I crack another.. or does anyone else wanna field this question?

It definitely needs aging. Had it awhile ago and wasnt a huge fan.

****! if I knew you could get narwhal and bigfoot here I wouldn't have wasted my duty free on a 6 pack :(

What are your thoughts?

I quite like the Narwhal, it seems well balanced and surprising at 10+ % the alcohol "flavour" doesn't seem to really come through the dark malts. Me like.

As said earlier the bigfoot and hoptimum were a bit of a kick in the face, really noticeable alcohol in both.. kinda like a torpedo with a shot of vodka in it. probably wouldn't go out of my way to hunt down more.

I always enjoy the Southern & Northern Hemisphere brews, that's my kind of hoppy :) I also enjoy the torpedo from time to time but I guess my favourite is still the pale.

Haven't tried the rye, stout, porter or kellerweis.

Mmmm.
Hoptimum.
100 ibu of pure face altering bitterness.

Sounds like you got a busted one. It's a huge beer. Bit little for an American barleywine maybe but huge if approached as a beer at the top end of AIPA (which may be more appropriate for some people).

Yeah, the barleywine is full on and almost syrupy but that's the style I suppose.

The Kellerweis is a great beer, beautiful summery style, completely different to the rest of their range and quite refreshing.

The Narwhal was the last beer of the night so we were pretty toasted by then (also had a fourpack of Feral's Hop Hog) but considering the alcohol and malt bill it was suprisingly balanced but absolutely shitloads of flavour. I really liked it.

But yeah, for my tastes, the three of the batch were the Kellerweis, Summer Harvest and Narwhal - all great beers.

And for the curious this is the bottleshop.

I gave the SN Torpedo a go for the first time last night - I was unfortunately un-impressed, yes it was a nice beer but I expected a little more.

Maybe old stock from Dans?
