Shelf Life of Malt Extract

What is the shelf life of canned malt extract; hopped and un-hopped?

I have inherited lots of Coopers can's for free.
But they are quite old so not sure it's worth the risk of using them.

If they've been stored well at cool temps and in date, they should be fine. If they're past their BBD and stored questionably, they're probably fertiliser.

If stored well = frozen, then MAYBE...but otherwise, no way. Not 5 years out of date. Mind you, I'd still open one to have a look and smell of it...

= fertiliser or pig food. Break it down with heaps of water and spread it around the garden, then water in well. Plants love the stuff.
