The yeast in the can will be fine, BUT any specialist american ale yeast will be far better.
US-05, BRY-97, M44 are all well priced better alternatives.

Yep. Like I told ya the other day mate, using a better yeast is the simplest way to improve the flavour of a beer. Then you go to temp control, hop additions, better ingredients and so on and so forth.

Lol my second brew was a triple decoction Hefeweizen .. LMAO.. fermenting at the moment.. Jumped in head and all

Unless you dry hop when you pitch the yeast you have to open the FV (fermenting vessel) to add the hops. That is where the risk is. Just thinking for a new brewer it is better to leave the FV sealed up.
Probably not the best practice to dry hop when you pitch the yeast. Even if you did, you have to open the fermenter to put the yeast in anyway…
Dry hopping about 1/3 to 2/3 through fermentation is when most people do it*… that way the yeast won't scrub too much of the dry hop character away, but there's still some fermentation to purge the added oxygen that the dry hopping introduces.

*of course, what most people do doesn't mean that's what you have to do.

I'm about 30 k's west of geelong. That would be best. I have friends and family in Ballarat may be possible. Melbourne is a bit of a stretch.
I have a brew centre in Geelong im not sure what he carries maybe some pellets, I heard one of the brewers at work say that there is a supply place out at Wallington. Anyone in the geelong area know where that one is?
Hi CK,

If you ever venture through Colac, I've got a home brew store in Murray St called Barwon Home Brewing. I've got a variety of beer kits, hops, yeasts and grains which may be of interest you.

Welcome to a great hobby.

Definitely worth a try! :) making a batch tonight.. Is a great fruity flavoured ale

Nice one, and welcome to the slippery slope towards all grain brewing.

I'm in the same boat captain kirk, did my first ever hb on new years day, the lager and be1 that came with the kit. I like fruity hop style beers aswell so I put a 25 gram bag of cascade hops in a cup of boiling water and soaked for 10mins then added water and bag to fermenter when pitching the yeast as per instructions. Just smellimg the hop bag was exciting for me. The flavour is there but it's not over the top. Definitely looking forward to more experimentation and progression. I have to say this forum has been such gold for me! So much good information and so many knowledgeable brewers.
