Does anyone have a plate chiller mounted vertically on their brewstand - as opposed to having it sit horizontally??

Does it effect the performance of the plate chiller...

Any advice appreciated.

I have had my MashMaster Plate Chiller mounted both ways and can't recall any problem performance wise. The only problem with mounting it vertically is you will get a fair whack-o dead space if you mount it with the wort "out" up the top (yes I did it! All braun no brains! ).

It's just zip tied ATM as I'm still mucking around with the final config of "Sherman".

Cheers for the advice Browndog and Chappo, will mount vertically with wort out at bottom!

BTW nice looking brew setup mate.

From the mashmaster website: "
HOW TO SETUP
Mount the ChillOut vertically with the writing on the name plate facing up. For pump and gravity setup to avoid air being trapped in the water flow it is suggested that water out be raised above the height of the water in flow."

This means wort out is on top. I've always used mine this way in conjunction with a pump and have no ill effect/issues.

In order for it to work effectively using gravity, I belive brissy recommends a drop of at least 1m from kettle to chiller.

I've got mine mounted with the wort out at the top, as per the suppliers instructions, don't get any dead space or air trapping as the flow of wort pushes all the air up and out.

I'm assuming that there is no difference between Beerbelly's plate chiller and the mashmaster one?? except that there is no writing on the one from beerbelly!

i've got mine with wort out at the bottom. Only have a drop of about 20cm from kettle to wort in.

Haven't had any problems.

I havent mounted mine but use it horizontally, with no issues. At the end of the brew I simply pick it up to empty it.

If I were mounting would definitely do so vertically, to make sure the wort (and sanitiser etc.) empties out.

For gravity feed the best results come (obviously I would think) by running the wort through from top to bottom and the cold water from bottom to top. You don't have to abide by the writing on the plate. It works the same either way.

Cheers, Hoges.
