Just made my first pear cider and thought i should share it came out great.

  • Mangrove Jack pear cider extract
  • 1KG dextrose
  • 4 fresh pears juiced
  • 1/2 a bottle of pear essence
  1. mix kit and dextrose as per instruction
  2. add pear juice before adding water
  3. add only half the supplied sweetener (none if you want it dry)
  4. top up the water
  5. add the essence
  6. add supplied yeast
  7. it started at about 1042
  8. finished about 2 weeks in fermenter at 1010
  9. I bottled in 750 ML bottles with 2 carbonation drops and let sit for 6 weeks before trying
It was my first attempt but come out better then i expected the missus loved it

I've made the same cider and it came out well also. I didn't add any of the supplied sweetener as I wanted it dry. If I do it again, I would add 1/4 of the sweetener as it finished really dry.

When I open a bottle it has a winey smell and feel but after its in the glass for a while it mellows down.

Good idea adding the extra pears. Did yours smell like oranges when it was fermenting? My fermenting fridge would hit me with the smell of oranges when I opened it, and I though "its not meant to smell like orange juice!!!".

I did add some yeast nutrient to help it, just as you would with a mead.

Fermented mine at around 20-22.
