Hey all

I need some ideas from those of you that have a hoist on a roof mounted sliding track to lift your malt pipes out of your one vessel systems and then slide them out of the way.

Currently I am thinking of using Eltrack EG2 (used for hanging sliding doors) to mount to the roof in the garage however I think it will be the best part of $200-250 for two meters of this track with a couple of trucks to bolt my electric hoist/winch to.

The second option is to get a wall mounted arm that I can mount the hoist to.

Any ideas or examples including product names would be hugely appreciated.

I guess depends on your roof structure, room setup, weight you are lifting and bits and pieces. If there is a ceiling joist or some other structure in the roof you could possibly look at a barn door style perhaps? Do you have a picture of what you are trying to do?

I was going to go for the sliding track, difficult to get as comes in a full length. E bay is worth a try. I went with fixed hoist and put wheels on my stand 2 locking 2 free wheels. $10 Bunning's.
$20 for a piece of 50 x 50 mm x 2.5 mm cross member.

Thanks for the responses guys.

To explain a bit more, I will have a brew tools b80, so the winch will need to lift ~60kg, possibly a bit more as the basket drains.

The track would be bolted to the joists most likely. Or the studs, if I was to use a hoist bracket.

Hi Garth,

Here's some photos of how I did my setup. I used old leftover yacht fittings.

If anyone is interested, the Ronstan part nos. are as follows:-

Series 19, RC61901, car X 2

Series 19, RC6190-1.5 I-Beam Track X 1500mm

Series 19, RC61980,Track end X 1

RF498 saddle X 2

Expensive to duplicate, but if you have 50 years of accumulated spares, it's not too bad.

The connections to the traveller cars are simple steel plates with holes drilled to match the existing bolt holes, there is a saddle attached to the top of each plate by bolts countersunk on the underside of each plate, this mates to each traveller car.

Cheers,

Wally

This is my 120litre kettle set up. A simple piano hinge and gallows frame , lift it up... and drop it down right next to the kettle... the frame is pinned to the skirting for extra stability
