I have had a 50L keg for some time and as the AG bug has hit i want to start getting the equiptment ready that i will need. First off i want a hole in the top, i just bought a glass lid for it so it keeps the heat in and so i can see whats going on. My question is how do i get a 30cm hole in the top of the keg? (i don't have a welder) Also i want to fit a ball valve in the bottom, can i just drill or do i use something else. By the way i have already depreasurised it and removed the spear so it ready to operate on.

Thanks in advance Scotty.

cut the top out with an angle grinder using a cut off wheel.

you can drill a hole and use compression fittings or TIG(MIG would be OK too) weld a ss nipple or coupling.

plenty of stuff on the site - just do a search
