I am getting started in kegging and have aquired this two way font:

http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/inde...20&start=20

I'll need some taps for this so I've been looking around. With a font like this, does it matter if the taps are "screw-lock" or "snap-lock"? Can either be attached with the right adapter or is it font-specific?

Any help would be great - I really have no idea. Thanks.

You need an adaptor for the tap to mount onto the font.

I think you need the following to be able to mount "snap-lock" taps (there is also a "screw-lock" version)

I could be wrong.

Best to check with the likes of GMK, DickoACT or Ross.

Those guys should be able to help you out.

Cheers, Pok

Ok thanks...

so could I attached taps like this with one of those adapters?

No, because the threaded end screws into a fitting and the cross-hatch end is a collar you pull back for a ball-lock shank on the tap.

Those taps have a threaded collar. They need a fitting like this;

We need a close-up view of what the fittings are on the font itself or info from the seller. Preferably not from the average phone camera, as they are too blurry.

Hi Harry,

I have a couple of taps and adaptors I am selling that will suit what you need.

1x 'EK' style tap (check Andales site, swing style tap not pull down) with lock-in adaptor $65

1x 'EK' style tap with stout diffuser with lock-in adaptor $70

1x'EK' style tap Downey branded $45 (works fine, just a bit shabby looking) no adaptor but will throw in one for an extra $25

1x DA Style Tap with black handle $65 no adaptor but will throw in one for an extra $25

I will give them a clean up put a kit through the tap and adaptor so they are ready to go, just need a few days, and will get some photos up soon. I advertised these on here a few weeks back and dropped the price since, so unfortunately I wont be able to do any better on the prices. Will post to you at cost.

PM me if your interested.

Cheers

Sully

I suspect you have these fitting on the font, because I can't see it correctly;

Thanks very much carbonator :beer: I will check with batz about the connection on the font before I do anything.

Looks to me like no fittings are needed. Looks like you need "snap-lock" taps to me, but then that is all i have ever used.

I am sure Batz would be able to help you out with any info you need...

So the taps Sully has with the snaplock-to-screw adapters will be fine in that case, correct?

You need to decide how far out from the font you want your taps to be. Every adapter will increase this length. Why buy the wrong tap for the font if you can get the correct tap in the first place, unless you want it as a step to change a light globe.

A nice little tap like this could be nice (if it suits the font fitting);

By the look of it you need the adaptors as well as the taps. The font is "universal" - sort-of so to speak, which means it will take either "Snaplock" or "Lock-in" style adaptors which dictates what shank type of tap you have to use. Snaplock style use ball bearings to lock into place, kind of like air compressor fittings. Lock-in have a threaded collar that locks it into place.

The ones I am selling are the Lock-in type.

Hope that clears it up a bit for you.

Cheers

That does clear it up for me, Thanks Sully!

So it appears I have a Lock-in adapter here?;

It does look like one yes....

I forgot to mention the biggest caveat is thread sizes too, 95% of cases are 3/4 BSP, but if the font was imported or old, then best off going to a specialist supplier like Andale (no affiliation) or the likes with a sample. I am going off personal experience as I have just finished setting my freezer up with a 3way font and taps.

Ok thanks guys - I have asked batz to post on this thread to confirm the font connector type, but assuming it is a standard size then Sully's tap + adapter combo should do the trick by the sound of it!

I'm sorry if I confused anyone, as I thought the font had an adapter on it already (low res image).

I think Sully's tap and adapter will work, but keep your eye on eBay for taps too before you rush out if you don't need them in a hurry.

seems that most of the taps on ebay have a threaded end similar to the ones i posted earlier which from what i understand now aren't compatible with that font?

You will need the Lock-in type adaptor to go between the font and tap for the ones you posted a link to.

Sully, did you get my PM regarding the taps earlier?

PM'ed you Harry, yours didnt come through.
Cheers

I may have several Lock-in adapters here (used but work fine), but I would need to look. I know I got at least one that's in the picture (I got about 50Kgs of used beer fittings in boxes) and there would be plenty more out there in bulk lots occasionally come up on ebay.

You should be able to get them new from Andalle, but check first.
