Looked this up $199! Hydro and $1.78 temperature probe, insulated to side of fermenter will just do me fine.
Yep. And I only need one of each to ferment multiple beers at the same time. Plus if (sorry, when) i break a hydrometer, its $10 or so to replace.

It doesn't seems to do anything to control the temp, so all I'm really getting is a reading of temp and OG every 3 seconds when I'm within the 25 feet (so 8 metres in real measurements) that I need to be in for it to interact with my phone/tablet. Even I'm not lazy enough not to walk the few steps required to see what the temp is on the controller box, or the few steps more to open the fridge to look at the stick on thermometers and take a hydro sample (which I also get to taste).

I am guessing that you have an easy way to get samples. I don't have at the moment because I use a chest freezer with 2 * stc1000 controllers monitoring the temperature. I am now 60 years old/*******/really ******* old and I don't want to be lifting the fermenters to take a sample each day. I imagine I could put a sample port around the 23lt mark buts its unlikely I could be bothered using it.

So this may be a solution ( but an expensive one).

It may be worth while looking here for other solutions

while all true those with bluetooth brewpi will be able to see it and graph it (with some code tweaking) from anywhere in the world and even use sg as a parameter to automatically change set point. Complete automated fermenting.

This device is a digital hydrometer that also measured the worts temp.

While i'm not as old as Glomp trying to lift 50L+ out of a chest freezer just to get a reading is quite an effort, but i dont waste beer every time i take a sample.
PS i have one on order, will post a review once i've used it :)

I can see why it would sell, especially for all those fermenting in glass carboys. Those things look like a pain in the backside for sampling/cleaning/moving.

But tasting the sample is also important information, so it really isn't wasted beer.

I wonder if one of these could somehow be modified to have the digital display outside of the fermenter? Either by means of pulling the LCD screen out or pulling the sensor out...
