maybe the sepia will go with the amber

i like the shape of it, that's cool

Sorry I've got to disagree with everybody.

I kind of like the label. Put it in a sepia type tone and I reckon it would really look the business. :beerbang:

Paul, if nobody likes it get Gus to put the gloves back on an sort 'em out.

I can see where everbodies coming from, but I actually didnt mind the third one (the sad, drunk Gus :)). I think maybe it would "lift" the mood, if the glass was full, or if he was taking a big old swig out of the glass. Just my opinion, of course, but then he really WOULD look as if it was his favourite!
All the best, keep putting em up as they evolve though, at least ya know ya will get some honest feedback here ;)
All the best

Can't you get a good piccy of Dad with a big smily face, beer foam on his top lip, and holding half a glass of good beer with a large white creamy head?
If you're gonna go with a pic. of someone, it's gotta say yum!
Go for it!

Regards,
Lindsay.

I dont know merc. I think the wine conniseur concept doesn't sit quite right, seeing as most exclusive wines have very basic labels ( ie no pictures etc). And are marketed at a very different crowd.
The fathers favorite thing, to me anyway, makes it sound like the beer equivalent of VAT69. And as a not so older person  I wouldnt go near it, only that i know its brewed by yourself.
I'm definately no marketing expert, but i know what I would buy, FWIW.

Sorry to be so critical. I just know if I was setting up a venture such as yourself, honest feedback would be priceless to me. Theres no point blowin smoke up your backside thats for sure.

oops, didn't mean to insult your father. Sorry if I caused any offence.

I'll now attempt to remove my foot from my mouth, but it's been stuck in there for a while.

No offence taken I thought it was funny! Besides he's been called many things...

I always think of "Father's Favourite" as brown ale. I don't know why.

You scumbags!
How do you think poor old Gus feels now

Did I say I liked the ones with Gus in them ? :p

:beerbang: On ya Gus :beerbang:

The third label is on the right path, however I think you need to show more of your father expressing with his face what John Meillon was expressing with his voice in those VB adds.

cheers

Steve

I went the path of removing them as I decided I didnt like them, and came up with number 1. number 2 didnt ring any bell for me. wanted to go #3 .......but...... IT shows the beer incased in a "OLD SPECKLED HEN" glass?????
So number 1 it is..for me.Deep and thought provoking

But I would try another label as someone else suggested....one with your Dads face in full view..and as happy as Larry drinking it...

Wondered when someone would nitice the glass?! If I use the shot we will use the magic of computers to get rid of the symbol.

Glad you liked #1. I dont want to go the man smiling on the label "great beer" route as that is about as appealing as a topless chick.... too obvious! I am trying to add something else to the label that allows for the viewer to make up his or her mind as to what is being implied and thereby personalise it. Maybe that is too much for a beer label but I will see. The idea also that beer is more than what you think it is - all if not most people here understand that or are on the way to understanding that - if we can get the general beer population to start to understand that idea then micro/boutique/gourmet beer will really start to sell!

VB got the bonnie doll why dont you get your old man to model the guz doll

I wouldn't normally buy something that had a photo - but it's different i guess (well i have bought "Sexy beer" but that's another story!). Maybe you could go with a normal style of logo/print on the bottle, but run the photos as "special limited edition" and then run a few variations on the theme - then after a little while revert to a standard style.

I don't like #2 at all, #3 is ok but looks like an AA ad, and #1 is ok i guess.

I was thinking sepia also but not to warm it but to cool it as in blue sepia <_<
#3

As a photographer I like 1 and 3. Both set a definiate mood being discussion and pensive.

I personaly like number 3, i find it relaxing and how i feel sometimes. Just wanting to enjoy and beer and have a think. If thats the mood your trying to capture then It works for me. However with that being said I can also see where the others are comming from.

Alot of photographs, like these are taken from an objective stance and so regardless of intentions people will have alternate translations.

Whats important is what you want to say. Its your beer, if you like it and it constructs the mood your going for then you have nothing to worry about. If you want to sell lots of beer for the mass market perhaps it might put some people off. Yet it certainly invokes curiosity and thats more than I can say about the majority of macro labels.
