Looking at all these beer subscription clubs etc and just pondering the possibility of an AHB mixed carton type thing.

Maybe buy 12 cartons of different beer styles and split the cost even between 12 people and take 2 bottles of each beer.
Not sure of the exact mechanics but being a beer novice I tend to try a few new beers from Dans when I go there but tends to be a pricey way to buy them.

I know Dans hasn't got many of the really lesser "mainstream" beers but might be a good starting point, might even be able to range a bit more of a discount off the slab price if buying 12 cartons, worth asking the question.
Could move onto other sources for slabs after we make our way through Dans list.

Just spit balling I guess but might be worth investigating.

Great idea, although I suspect logistics would be difficult, unless everyone was local(ish) and could physically meet up and exchange/collect? Almost sounds like a homebrew club but for commercial beer :beerbang:

Yeah logistics would be tricky, not sure how that would work, maybe a vaguely central melbourne location to service Melb crew.

Doing a quick assorted list from dans below, 24 of each (some are only in cases of 20\16\12 etc so only ball park figures here) works out at ~$105 split between 12 people, 2 of each of the 12 per person or ~$4.50 per bottle.
Not sure how you pick the list, maybe a rotating selection roster.
I imagine there would end up being a few you wouldn't like\want in amongst each mixed case but I guess that happens with subscription things anyway.

Hoegarden White
Leffe Blonde
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Frankenziskaner HefeWeissbier
Feral Hop Hog IPA
Pilsner Urquel Pilsner
Wychwood Hobgoblin xtra Strang Ale
Innis + Gunn Oak Aged Ale
Leffe Radieusse
Youngs Double Choc Stout
Duvell Golden Ale
Sunnner Kolsch

At $ 4.50 per bottle after dividing, Is there really a need to complicate buying beer by doing a share? Most of Dans beers as singles are ball park that price anyway.

If you are going to do a case swap, my suggestion would be to aim for the homebrew as I am sure this would yield a more interesting palate tease.

Quite a few of the EU import\lower volume ones are more like $6-$8 a bottle, and at 24 bottles saving $2 each ends up not a bad saving.
The Cellabrations near my work also is pretty keen on stocking some of the "craft" beers so a store like that may end up giving a better deal on a $1000+ order.

Seems case swaps are already pretty common with the various homebrew clubs, just an idea for something different I guess.

I'm in, although the selection is pretty standard for regular import drinkers I would say. Would be good to try some stuff that has high acclaimation, but limited availability. Although this would rule out a celebrations type supplier.

Having said that leffe blond is nothing to sneeze at with a 50/50 from bjcp.

Could we look at somewhere like Purvis for some imports?

Happy to do some research as I am already heading in tomorrow for a beer/cheese tasting selection for work.

Will report back with findings, but once again happy to go with the list proposed, just adding food for thought.

Purvis would be good, they have around 200 different beers and I think there is a good place in mt Eliza too
We could combine the swap with a grain bulk buy #justsayin

Hey Oz there is International Beer shop in W.A, I have bought from them in the past or Slow beer in Richmond.Anyone who puts their hand up to be in it elect the most central one for pick up.
Then everyone would have to discuss which beer(s)it is going to be.

Yeah I'm a massive noob for beer selection, above was far from a definitive list, really just a quick list as an example of the theory.
I'd be keen on any of the above mentioned outlets.
As I really have little idea of what is good or not and I'm really just after trying more styles\beers to educate myself, I'm probably not a good one to pick the beers, but maybe a nominate and vote type system to pick the final list might work. The people who commit to it submit their preference, a list is drawn up and voted on. You're bound to end up with beers you may not want but I guess people could swap between themselves on pickup if they feel the need.

I know the International beer shop in W.A. will do mixed boxes and they have a good range, but negotiating is better done face to face so Slow beer or Purvis both in Richmond would be the way to go and play them off against each other.
I reckon it's a good idea if enough people throw their hat into the ring.

Nillumbik cellars in Diamond Creek has a great range and the owner (Albert) is both approachable and helpful, free shipping if the order is over $200 from memory, unfortunately their web site only covers wine but they have a range of beers equal if not better than Dan's and will get stuff in for you too. If any of you guys travel to my side of town I'd thoroughly recommend them.

I'm up for it, subject to a central-ish pickup spot in Melbourne.

I do like the beer list that ozPaleAle has posted. But I'd equally be interested in a mixed slab of Aussie craft beers. Actually, it'd make me feel good to do an Aussie buy.

My vote is for rare/hard to come by beers that are not often available, some examples:
Anything from Westvleteren
Anything from Three Floyds Brewing
Anything from Russian River
Anything from Brouwerij - Particularly Natte

Bell's Batch 7000 Ale
Bell's Hopslam Ale
Hürlimann's Samichlaus
Hair of the Dog's Fred from the Wood
Deschutes Brewery's The Abyss
Surly's Darkness
Westvleteren's Extra 8
Hair of the Dog's Adam
Goose Island's Bourbon County Stout

I know SlowBeer does 10% off for dozen-bottle buys. They might be willing to go a bit more for a 12-slab buy. Logistics will be the biggest issue. I'd recommend organizing locally. Shouldn't be too hard to find 12 guys on AHB from your area interested in interesting beers.
