Im looking at buying a grain mill, the two im thinking of are the Monster Mill MM2,and the Crankandstein 2D both are around the same price.
Does anyone else have any other ideas? or what do they think of these two?
thanks
Humulus

I use a MM2 and built my own hopper.

I am still tweaking the gap settings from brew to brew, but cannot fault the unit at all.

Dollar parity means now is a great time to get one for sure if ordering from the States too.

You won't hear a bad word said about either mill (they are both excellent mills). Myself, I have a Monster Mill and love it.

I've got a MM2 with their hopper and base kit. Possibly the coolest thing in the whole world.

...well maybe a bit of an exaggeration but pretty good none the less!!

I have the mm2 and the hopper with base

The hopper is great, every grain falls into the mill, not a single grain gets caught which means there's no dangerous fiddling with brushes etc to coax the last few grains in, and the metal is very nicely machined with no sharp edges

Planning on making a larger base to mount an electric motor and psu

LoveBeer think you might have made my mind up for me! did you order all the bells and whistles with yours?
The monster mill with base and hopper works out $210 delivered from the states!
Now just gotta talk SWMBO into it!

Mine is actually the MM-3 with the hopper, base and 1/2" shaft (its worth getting the hopper because the grain feeds perfectly)

I got the crankandstein 2d and love it. I got if for the ease of changing the gap. No messing around measuring, just click to the next setting. I know it's parallel and get a consistent crush. Not sure how you go about changing the gap for a monster mill so can't comment on that.

Highly recommend MM2 and base and hopper. I couldn't make a hopper that good for $30.

I am in the same boat at the moment Humulus so thanks for starting the thread. I know we can buy the Mashmaster 2 in Australia but who if anyone stocks Monster Mills and Crankandsteins? I'm not a fan of ordering from overseas but if nobody in Australia stocks them I may have to.

Love the look of the Mashmaster, big and shiny but very expensive compared to others we can order from the USA.

I use a feeler gauge - not quite as simple as clicking to the next setting though!

I bought a mm2 Monster mill and have got it working with a motor easily http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/inde...showtopic=51288. The only differenc I can see between the two would be crankenstein spins both rolllers is fully adjustable but not the easiest to adjust. The monster only spins one roller but is easily fully adjustable. Anyway I really like my monster mill +1

Drew i might take the punt and grab one of the mills from the states ill let you know how it goes, now to make my mind up on which one!!!!!

I have a MM2 mill and I'm more than happy with it, but they're both good machines and it really comes down to personal preference.

Received my MM2 Monster Mill yesterday (Stainless steel rollers - it gets bloody rusty where we are).
She's a real beauty, can't wait to give her a spin.

I also got the stainless rollers and 1/2" shaft

The stainless rollers are awesome for piece of mind, not so sure if I *needed* the bigger shaft tho

Another one to consider.

Barley Crusher

I have one and its perfect. My 12V cordless drill attached and it crushes 10kg grain in mere minutes. Only US$114 at the moment.
I know everyone loves their MM and cranken's but in my opinion, they are overkill for the homebrewer.

Drew, I ordered my Monster Mill from the states and it was no problems. Delivered in about 2 weeks flat. Very good communication, very easy to deal with. You only need a Paypal account.
If you order direct you won't pay markup. And if you split shipping costs you will save a bit more.

Fred at Monster Mill was really good to deal with and made it very easy even told me how to set up a paypal account.
The order arrived 7 days after the payment was made. Can not recommend him more highly.

How long have you had yr barley crusher for? Mine has done several hundred kilos of grain but I reckon it's on it's last legs.
