Hey Guys,
Just a mention of the Food an Wine Festival here in Melbourne (and a fair few regional Victorian places as well)
There are several "beer focused" events this year (although not as many as last year ) as well as a few others that will certainly be of interest to a few AHB members. Notably cheese stuff and a Salami making master class. And thats only if good wine and great food doesn't ring your bell by itself
I'm not affiliated in any way, but I will probably be taking a week or two of annual leave so that I can spend a grand, put on 3 or 4 kg and make myself very happy indeed.
From last year I can highly recommend
The Sydney Road Bakeries Tour
Tales and Ales
The Belgian Beer Experience (although they hold this a few times during the year)
Australian Cheese Masterclass
Alan Campion's Foodies Tour of Melbourne (you can also do this through the CAE during the year)
Victorian Micro breweries showcase (if you haven't made it to one yet)
Things that made my "want to do" list this year
Single Origin Prosciutto @ Church st Enoteca
Pork Alchemy: La Luna style
A Banquet of the 1950's @ Flower Drum
Champagne and the Sea @ The Argo
Germany - Reisling and spice and all things nice @ Viv Cellar
The New Portugal @ The Montague Hotel
The little Champagne house of RA @ RA
Tales and Ales @ The Exchange Hotel
Chandon Oyster Hour @ Oyster Little Bourke
Australian Cheese Masterclass @ Ormond Hall
Salami Meisterclass @ The Montague Hotel
The Duck Crawl - Little Bourke st (sold out though)
Tea Party at the Terrace @ the botanical gardens
Wine Down Windsor - Chapel st (Windsor end)
Scandinavian Smorgesboard @ The Exchange Hotel
A Night at the Kasbah @ Canvas
Danish Herring Day @ The Danish Club
A World of Chips @ World Restaurant Bar
The Whey of Slow Curds @ Redhill Cheese
High Tea @ Mambourin Sensory Garden
The Omnivore's Feast @ Heronswood Dromana
Around the World in 80 Mushrooms @ Goona Warra Vineyard
Lunch Among the Brewery Tanks @ Holgate Brewhouse
My last Supper - The dinner @ The Meat Market
Good Food Guide Express lunch @ Everywhere!!!
Which might be kind of ambitious Especially since some of these things are on at the same time. I am aiming for a 33% minimum strike rate.
Anyone else with recommendations??
Anyway, check out the website and better yet download the guide if you missed it in last Friday's Age. The site is a bit misleading about some of the dates... things that have multiple dates or run for the whole festival are sometimes listed with only one date... double check em
