Hi All
I am abuot to start "calibrating my HLT, MLT and Keggle.

My HLT is a (see you bee) 50 ltr and my MLT is a Power Keg (they look the same).

My Keggle is a 18 Gallon keg (see all here http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum//ind...p;#entry654622)

I am just planning to fill with 5lts of water at a time and make off on same dowel.

So I was just wondering if anyine had there measurments/volumes so I can make sure I'm within "range"

cheers
Matt

just did my keggle (18 Gal (UK)),

I am using 19mm pine dow.

to do the measuring I put 5 ltrs of water at a time then the dow, mark the level. The measurements are taken from the line I have drawn on the dow.

so in 5 ltr increments

millimeters

Another way to tackle the problem is put the tank on a set of scales, put enough water in to account for any dead space (what doesn't drain out when you open the tap) zero the scales, fill up tank take the volume in litres from the mass say 45 L, then drain down in increments, when the scales say 40 Kg put on a mark and so on, pretty easy, decent bathroom scales are good enough for the job.

A square stick is not a bad option, mark one side HLT-Cold, another HLT- Hot (~4% higher at boiling ~3% at 75oC) for the same mass, likewise for the Kettle tho we can assume that the wort in the kettle will be hot you could mark volume contained and knockout volume if you wanted to.

Mine's in 10 L increments - it's a stainless steel rod which was the spear from the keg

I have 105 mm
180 mm
260mm

I stopped at 30 because most batches are only 30-32 and I got sick of filling the keggle.

ok my keggle was measured on the side (closes to the sides of the keg)

My HLT is measured in the middle (and is close enough to manticle's)

My MLT (measured towards the edge (not on FB (right nest to it) but on Keg base) starts at 4.7 then follows similare increments

I have just done the MLT as I thought when I have all (HERMS etc..) up and running I could "cold" water and grain in the MLT and let the HERMS step it up to acid, protean and mash so the HLT could have 50 ltrs of water that is only required for sparging (this is assuming I could get a 4 - 4.5kg of grain beer for 20ltrs into a cube so I could do a triple batch)

cheers
Matt
