is that the morebeer job? I though about picking one of em up, hows it go?

damn thats one nice shiny set up. whats your insulation made of?

Lovely work Rob. I still cant believe that a year or so agao this bloke was conscripted and shown how to vorlaufen one of the three mash tuns on the go at the whole bag brew day, and now he is on brewery MkIII with full on hop back, and had a bunch of really good scores in the state comp.

I think youll find them marketed as @Asparagus steamer@ in your local department store.

sexy....and clever....and both at the same time....looks the goods to me !!!!

no hop no cry

Hey Guys,

it's one of those one with the raised ss false bottom, really worked a treat piss easy to get the flow rate right as well. don't have any time or a shed to knock one up myself at the moment and justified it because i'm going to be
using it to spagre into as well when i commision a second mash tun i.e. run 2 mash tuns into it then pump into my kettle should do the trick and no more getting impatient and compacting the grain bed.

hey joe insulation was $3 camping mat from BCF.

if you have never tried a hopback be warned the flowers swell very quickly when adding hot wort

it's going to be great when my hops are ready for picking.

Rob.

Going to use it as a lauter grant too, eh? Good idea. I'm going to put a hop filter into my next kettle so I can use it as a hopback and filter bed while running off the wort.

i knew there was a fancy word for it, meh now i know. will be very interested to see what differance the hopback makes.

i sure enjoyed that TTLPA we brewed, if anyone got any oxidation that was me!
i though you were supposed to hold it up high while sparging and make it bubble. hahah how quicky we learn.

Rob.

p.s. sinkas is right to the missus it is known as an asparagus steamer.

Yes after the state comp the other week I was saying to GL, gee that young RR has come a long way fast as we reminisced about last years brewday! and the poor vorlaufen monkeys that were press ganged into helping. Little did we know what sort of a monster we had created

Thats where the "No-Idea" build it as you brew one came from.

I have also thought about using mine as a lauter grant as they hold about 3.8L of wort, I do have concerns about the change from mash mode to hopback mode as far as keeping the bugs out of the final side of the system but considering some of the micro's are using their mash tuns as giant hop backs it can't be too bad.
My idea is to use it as a lauter grant then run a "CIP" cycle using the HLT to pump caustic through the hopback and chiller whilst the boil is happening, then a sanitizer rinse so at the end of boil it is squeaky clean and ready to go.

How much did you pay for yours Rob? I have considered knocking them up if people are interested but it depends if I can find the asparagus pots at the right price.

Running stinking hot wort into a SS vessel, I don't think it would be a problem.

Its the nooks and crannies in the connections plus the pump and tubing that concerns me. Plus it can't hurt to make sure the chiller is definitely clean before each use, remember the thread from TonyM about all the nasties that built up in his.

So is it from morebeer? It looks identical to the one they sell...

I didn't think of the other bits and pieces, was just thinking of that lovely shiny sparrow steamer. It certainly wouldn't hurt to clean it between the grant and the hopback but I still don't reckon you'd run into trouble if you didn't.

thats exactly what i did anyway before i used it the first time, tho i didnt use caustic i just recirculated boiling water through the hopback, march pump and cfc then back into the hlt for an hour or so before use. hoping this should keep the nasties down.

i've got a fair wack of brass in my brewery and a little scared that caustic would affect it?

i think it was about $180 it's a very high quality pot has a thick base, i haven't got it with me at the moment but can bring it to the next meet if u guys wanna check it out for ideas etc.

Rob.

Nice looking setup RR; great job! Don't worry about justifying it - you want it, you're confident it will make you good beer... go Nike. :beerbang:
