Were expecting a new addition to the family on Sunday. If that doesnt come then it might be double batches on Monday. Mocha porter and a hefe

All my cubes are empty at the moment :(

But ive still got 4 full kegs, 20 litres in fermenter and 20 litres ccing :p

Should keep me going ;)

I think that now I have my keg setup operating, I'm going to make a House Ale v1.0, maybe something like

20L Batch

95% Pale
5% Caramalt

Single infusion at 65.

50g B Saaz FWH as only addition

US-05 at 18C

I'll be pouring myself a pint early as I won't need to remember any hop additions after sparging!

ohhh that tickles my fancy in ways u cant imagine,

are u treating FWH as a 20 minute addition bittering wise? also how many IBU's

let us know how it goes

Rob.

What ive just put down

the hopburst has made it very sweet tea flavored before fermentation. 1st time using horizon.

Spent two days worrying about putting a brew down. In the end, no time, no enthusiasm. Spent twenty minutes on putting down a ginger beer, drunk a couple of bottles and watched cricket all day ! Tennis tonight - go the Serbian whatever his name is ...(remember the Rainbow Warrior !!)

All set for another IPA tomorrow.
The kettle loading is just plain silly.
Hop shortage? What hop shortage? :)

Rob.

Yeah treating it as 20 minute addition is about 20-25 IBU. I'm gonna use this as a calibration point for my system for FWHing.

Probably not happening for a bit as I'll likely not feel like doing much tomorrow, and I have no grain :S

Good Day
Just mashed in an ordinary bitter and a dry stout. Brewed an ordinary bitter and a norhtern brown on Friday. So many beers to brew, so little time.

Brewed a CAP Saturday and Australian Ale yesterday.

Wanted to brew a Munich Helles today but I'm being dragged off for a picnic somewhere <_<

Cheers.

Well may you say' "God save the Phat", because nothing will save an underhopped APA. - quote Les 2008
APA... Unpatriotic yes. Bad me. :D

Brewing today......... its mashing right now behind me. I was going to brew on Saturday but i had to go fishing with a mate in his boat instead......... so the brewing got defered to today as yesterday was spent with family.

sort of :icon_offtopic:

fishing trip was worth it:

3fish.jpg

Mewithfish.jpg

The big one was 40cm and just under a Kg in weight. legal length is 25cm so it was a monster...... you dont catch these all the time. The other 2 were good fish at 30cm+ but the big bream makes them look like gold fish

they went down very well with a cold keolsch!

Brewing an Aussie ale today.......... lawnmower type beer, low hopping rates, light body with a cool mash for a dry crisp finnish. The hop combo i used in my HAG case swap beer was a winner so in going a toned down version for it.

wanted a 52, 65, 72 mash and got 52, 65.5, 72 with a pH of 5.3. Its going to be a winner id say

Cheers

edit: I finally built a stir plate and made a nice big 3 L starter of Wyeast 2206 to try in this beer, first time using a smack pack, so more new things to try when its ready.

I did my first ever double decoction mash, so will be interested in seeing what results it brings in the beer. The visit from the constabulary driving past at 2 am and wondering what all the steam coming out from under the garage door and what the wonderful hoppy aroma wafting down the street was turned out to be a bit of a giggle. After 10 minutes of explaing the AG process they were on there way looking a little disappointed they hadn't sprung a drug lab I think...

Today is Kolsch day, bring it on...

HA........ i didnt tell you the story of the last time we went to the same spot....... and this is NOT a tall fishing story........ its true!

I had a few nibbles and hooked something....... you know, the end of the rod was flickering around.

I started reelin g it in and comented to my friend that it was nothing great.

Next thing i know the rod bends to its limit and line is spooling off the reel.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :)

10 minuites of fighting got it to the surface out of reach of our net in the boat. It was a flathead........ i thought it was a small shark at first. 4 foot long, 8 inches across the head...... at least!

My mate (who does a lot of fishing) started to do a dance on the spot in the tinny, turned and looked at me with wide open eyes and an unsure look and said........ ahhhhhh tone...... i think we have buckleys of getting that in the boat on light line.

I started stearing it over to the boat but it spotted the boat and the net reaching out towards it and ran again. It went for 15 seconds, spooling line off the reel again, and was gone.

My mate and i sat down in the boat quietly for a moment........ then deciced........oh well get another bait in the water.

I reeled in my line slowly and feeling a bit upset ontop of the masive adrenalin rush i was having, hands still shaking.

I lifted up my hook and there was a very dead 30cm flathead on it, hooked through the lip.

The big bastard had just had the almost legal flatty in its mouth for lunch and wasnt giving it up for anyones daughter!!!

True story.

Sorry for the off topic but the story had to be told :)

cheers

Aussie Ale - Finished with Amarillo & D Saaz, I don't think so - What was wrong with cluster or POR :p

Cheers Ross

:p

I was waiting for that

My last one was 100% POR, thought i would do something different.

Its only 20g in 54 liters! you can hardly smell of taste it but its there and they go together very well.

I took some pics of the hop flowers filtering all the break out on the kettle FB. wort was crystal clear to the firmenter. Will post them later..... have to deal with kids now.

cheers
