Life span of cracked grain

Hi all

Was gonna do a brew tonight with ingredients i bought on Sat just gone. Grain cracked. But I'm at the pub and don't want to leave.

Some one please tell me grain will be happy to wait until Sunday to be deliciously mashed and brewed without losing noticeable amounts of flavour, body, etc? In sealed bag but not vaccum packed...

Fk its my round.....

Too right. I normally have it show up cracked at the start of a week and brew the next weekend. Fresh as.

So is their a used by date on grains ?.I have some in the fridge that has been their well over 2 mths . :unsure:
 
i was just about to look for the same question.

i've just had a couple off bags worth milled up from grain and grape. was planning on putting a brew on tomorrow and another in 4 weeks.
 
I know its not the done thing...

I brought grain in December, got busy with xmas. Forgot it was there.

Actually brought more grains and did three aother brews before I remembered it was there. I eventually used it in May almost 6 months later.

It probably would have been better if used fresh but it was still good beer. I have no doubt this was completely the wrong thing to do. But I didn't want to throw it out.

The point its...it will be fine while your at the pub
 
I have to get my grain shipped in so cost becomes a factor, as a result I usually buy grain for me and a mate together, usually 4 brews worth each, about 2 1/2 months brewing.
Haven't noticed any issues with the grain, kept in sealed vacuum packaging as much as possible or resealed and kept in airtight containers till use.
Gotta get a mill one day but theres other things above it on the list.

Do you think keeping in a fridge resealed in airtight containers is ok ? Or should I take them out of the fridge.?
 
I just store it in the garage with all my gear, don't know if fridging would help or not.
As I said, I haven't noticed anything bad but certainly wouldn't want to keep for much longer than I do now.
 
I personally would keep it away from the fridge unless your absolutely positive the "airtight" container will keep all the moisture out. I've used plastic containers etc that were meant to be airtight but for whatever reason weren't.

I thought leaving things in the fridge uncovered dehydrated them (not that I am suggesting that you should leave the grain uncovered..
