hi all,

brewing my first AG lagers and they are smelling very egg or sulphury.........

is this the cas and it will clean up once lagered, thinking of lagering for about 3 weeks @ about 2-3deg

(im using s-189)

cheers

Yep it's natural. Take a look at howtobrew.com for his chapter on lagering and do a search here on sulphur.

Lots of advice.

Cheers

I have read that some lager yeast do give off sulfurous fumes during fermentation. However, I have not noticed it when I have used S-189. Then again, I tend to leave my lager, once it's started fermenting, alone at about 10 degrees so I might have missed it if it did it.

It should clear up by the time it completes fermentation (from memory). What temperature are you fermenting at ?

11 deg, been in there for 7 days, how long do most leave it in primary for?????
