I am off to Japan later in the year and keen to check out a few decent local breweries.

Has anyone travelled over there recently and checked out any breweries?

I am keen to check out Baird.

I was lucky enough to get to the Nanto brewery on Okinawa. Not Japan main island but you might see it there.

They use an old cave systems water to brew the beer that you can visit at "Okinawa world"

Pretty good I even brought back 2 bottles.

I've been very lucky to visit a lot of places and the Japanese culture is by far top 3 most amazing I've experienced.

You'll love it!

It's hard to do craft brewery tours cos they don't usually run them. Bairds is in Shizuoka, quite far from Tokyo. I can give you some recommendations depending on where you're staying

I just got back from japan. I did get to visit a small british style brewpub in Asasuka which was pretty cool. You will love it over there. A truly amazing place

If breweries are difficult to find, even recommendations for decent pubs with good tap beer would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Tokyo
Popeye
Devilcraft
Good beer faucets

Check out ratebeer Tokyo as well

There are lots of places in Japan, especially Tokyo and Osaka, that have great craft beer -- food too, if you're into that. More opening all the time, so by the time you get here in September, there will be a whole slew of new ones.

They also have an app that's a hell of a lot better than the one mentioned above:

Baird has two Tokyo Taprooms and one in Yokohama besides the original in Numazu, Shizuoka. In June we're opening our new brewery in Shuzenji, Shizuoka. Check out our website:

Hope you enjoy, and if I can be of any help, let me know.

Cheers
