Love the JS IPA, would like to make something similar.

Has anyone had a go at cloning this or able to a suggested starting point for a recipe?

James Squire India Pale Ale

Brewer tasting notes:
James Squire India Pale Ale is made with Munich and pale malt, so it brews to a rich, golden colour, with a robust, malty character. Its earthy, floral aromas are a result of dry-hopping with English Fuggles hops added in generous amounts directly into the maturation tanks. This India Pale Ale is handcrafted in the traditional style. It is higher in alcohol, effervescent and has a characteristic highly hopped bitterness with a crisp finish on the palate.

Are you doing a Kit or AG?

ah, the MSB text is quite helpful

so a 5.6% alc beer,
Pale Malt,
Munich
IBUs on the bitter side
flavour and dry hopping with fuggles

I find it very hard to believe there isn't some kind of medium crystal in there. The colour seems too dark for just pale and munich. Also shoot for 45 IBUs.

The recipe I would go with would be something like:

83% Pale Malt
15% Munich
2% Crystal

Bitter with POR (or Super Pride) to 45 IBUs
1-2g/L Fuggles @ 20mins
1-2g/L Fuggles @ 10mins
1-2g/L Fuggles Flameout or Dry Hop

Personally I can't detect any dry hop characteristics - certainly not a whole bunch of hop aroma by the time you get it in the bottleshop. I would think adding the aroma hops at flameout will get you something closer to the packaged product than dry hopping. But that's just my personal tastes I am going off...

Rob at MSB told me the IPA isn't dry hopped, not sure if that's true or not. Maybe they changed the recipe since the website was made. Either way i reckon an IPA should be dry hopped, so do it :)

Thanks guys, looks like a great starting point

Think you're right TD. If it's dryhopped as JS say I reckon they just dipped the hops in and out for fear of adding too much. Also think there's some kind of light to medium crystal in there too.

Sometimes I just think that the boys at Malt Shovel love playing secret agent with their recipes. They live in fear of somebody caring enough to pinch them.

Chuck raved on about how it was dry hopped at the last tasting I was at, he mentioned how many kilos and I asked him if it sucked up much wort.

Heres a recipe I got from Leon and it came up pretty well when I made it
