I have been told not too use this kind of steraliser in Corny kegs as it eventually pits the kegs, leading to holes. Is this true, as i been doing it for 2 yrs and don't seem to see any problems as yet ?

it's fine mate just don't leave it in there for too long.

wow, that was easy ;)
At 1ml per litre it wont do any damage. I store this mix in my kegs while not in use and there has been no ill effects. I do understand the argument though. The Phosporic acid in the Iodophor cant be a good thing for s/s but at these concentrations I would not loose any sleep. (seplilng)

I've never heard Iodophor is bad for SS. Bleach yes, but iodophor no.

would sodium met be a bad sterilizer for a keg ?? I'm thinking yes ?? could rust it out ?

Hey Dengeez,

I would say long term (weeks) storage of iodophor will pit your keg. Just because you cant see it does not mean its is not corroded.

FWIW, I reckon the Iodine is more likely to be the causative agent than the phosphoric acid.

cheers

I've left sodium percarb solutions in my kegs for months with no noticeable affect. I reckon you should be right :)

If you do have rust spots though the percarb solution wont help them one little bit. Once I had a rust spot on a post and dropped the post in to clean as well, didnt take long for it to get some weird rust coloured gunk hanging off the rust spot - I think it catalyzes the oxidation - again I cleaned it, scrubbed it with some oxalic acid this time, dried it and let it sit for a bit to repassivate, chucked it back it and it didnt happen again.

stevenk: I wouldnt use sodium met to sanitise anything, I don't think it would rust your keg though.

Just not a fan of it, it smells toxic, gives me chronic headaches and nosebleeds and I think its mainly a winemakers thing.

i do agree when it gets up ya nostrils it is not plesnt hahahahahah.

but it is a good non rinse streralizer has not let me down yet so...

cheers.

why wouldnt you use sodium met ??

I have read a warning on sod met the fumes can be harmful and bring an asthma attack
as an asthmatic im not risking it

I use idophor and have not come across any problems yet
