Hello all,

For the first time ever all 3 of my fermentors are empty.
2 x 30 ltr - 1 will be my IPA.
1 x 70 ltr

I have been scouring the recipeDB for ideas but can't seem to come to any conclusions.

I will try pretty much anything style wise.

Please throw some ideas at me. I only do extracts but want something to give me a bit more of a challenge. Have 1 70 ltr SS Stockpot and burner I can utilize too.

Maybe something for the Vic Xmas Swap?

Any ideas?

The old face DrSmurto's Golden Ale.

Something wheatie.. extract Hefe...

Aussie lager if that's your thing (try Cluster ILO PoR for something different)

Ross's Summer Ale for something unique and rather delicious.

Something dark and something light.

Light should be a lager or pilsner to take advantage of the cold weather. Dark should be an ale because they're good things. Rich stout, choc porter, american brown with chinook, English brown with fuggles.

Good thinking manticle.
Have heaps of Choc Porter so pilsner will be on the cards.
1 x 30 - My IPA
1 x 30 - Amber Delight Premium Pilsner (by cdbrown)

Anyone have ideas for the 70 litre?

Bugger, I did a light one and a dark one... both lagers... ahh well. Nothing like a deep amber lager to confuse barbecue guests this coming September ;)

Dark lager is good. Have you tried schneider's aventinus weizen eisbock?

you have a 70litre pot and a burner , get an esky mash tun my friend and move to the dark side

That's the plan mate, slowly gaining a bit of necessary knowledge whilst doing extracts and buying bits and pieces along the way so when I believe I am ready I will have the gear with no major outlay.
SWMBO bought me home a 50 ltr ESKY last Friday night. She has been looking over my shoulder the past weeks and knows how much I love HB. ( wonder what she wants lol  ).
I have had a bit of a joke about it though as she is a Police Officer - her wage paid for it, our taxes pay her wage, so we all paid for my new tun so I can avoid alcohol tax lol  .

Anyways, can't wait to go AG. Klieny has been nice enough to let me sit in on an AG one day to see the ropes :super:

WOW. Thanks. I am pretty keen to give this a go now.
May be a silly question but would I be right to say these are for 22/23 ltrs so if I was to do a "Double Batch" of one of these to make use of my 70 fermentor I would just double all ingredients?
May seem a silly question but it's not a mistake I am wiling to make.

Kev.

good stuff mate , kleiny will guide you in the right direction he knows his stuff and has a nice brew setup too , if your still after a mash tun in a little while i might be able to help ya out , im in the process of a system upgrade and it needs to get moving rapidly too

Yeastie, with that much empty fermenter space, you better join Australia's Bigest Brew Day this weekend and fill them all. Only costs $5 to enter. My goodness!

I reckon grab a copy of Brewing Classic Styles and brew some extract brews from that.

Oh, hold on, I just saw you have a 70lt pot! Why aren't you doing BIAB? You can get a double batch from that pot. It is actually the kettle I use.

I think I can actually hear your pot begging to go all-grain!

:D

The leap between extract and AG is not always just equipment - it's learning process. Yeastie is on the way but just as being patient with your fermenter is wise, so too is being patient with your processes. Who makes foie gras before they can make roux?

I know he will.
I already have one but I am sure someone else will want one here.
I have been nagging SWMBO about us buying Kleiny's keg fridge (yes blokes can nag when it's important).
We are moving house soon so that is our priority, fortunately but unfortunately.

Oh yes, it IS begging...but (see below)

You are bang on manticle, I want to gain the knowledge first before I make the step forward. I would think if I was to jump straight in I would have a lot of unanswered questions and I really don't want that, I want to be comfortable doing it, knowing 100% that it will be a successful brew.
I want to build my equipment up slowly whilst learning.

Cheers.
Kev.

Froi gras and roux are totally different things.... anybody got a spare duck!

Everybody is different though, I found All Grain alot easier then extract brewing BUT maybe it has being the journey of all grain and understanding a little more each time!
