I seem to have settled my expenses on my hobby having aquired much of the initial investment in brew gear .

However Kegging bits pieces can add up depending how sophisicated you wish to dispense your beer from.

I seem to have so much beer around that I spend more time drinking it than brewing it !!!!

I still seem to spend about$30 per month on ingredients and $20 on gear is that too much .

Pumpy :)

I'd spend about the same, if not a little more, but then I'm still building up my system

$30 on ingedients per month! How often do you brew?

I about $80 - $100 a month, for about 4 30L batches (depends on they OG of each batch) but i would think i spend less that $10 on equiptment, just need to replace lines that have gone bad.

If you can do four batchs a month at $30, please share you secrets!!!

Well a bulk buy 25 kilo grain came to 45 bucks and I seem to have a shitload of hops for some reason I am using about 100 grams a batch to get rid 0f them .

Oops...I read that as per week ??

I do the grain book thing at G&G so i get 50kg @ 110 (not too much more that your cost). The not paying for hops might help. I think $80 might be an over exaggeration, still it would be close to that.

So how many batches do you do a month? I must know how much you spend per brew!

Anachi I brew about three batches a month I am sure i must be paying about $20 per batch under normal circumstances that is $60 I got ahead by mashing Pumpy's fresh wort kits that is skewing the costs

Well with the wife away until Thursday, today was a big brewday. Completed 3 40L AG batches which are concentrated and condensed into 6 15L wort kits (30L each). I now have 12 15L wort kits ready to dilute to 20L and pitch when ready.

As far as cost, it may range from nothing each month to a couple hundred when I get a bulk grain order in. Rough estimate would have to be between $60 - 80. I don't need anymore keg/brew gear (ATM  )

I make 42 lt batches ever 6-8 weeks, without the cost of running the keg freezer I'm up for about $40 a batch.
Doesn't include equipment upgrades but I doubt I will be doing anymore......unless Ross comes out with something else I don't already have. :p

It was a great day in Sydney today Pumpy (which you would know).

I also got to plant my hop rhizomes, do the washing and clean the house. Also received an email from SWMBO in Maui at the Longboard Bar. She found all of the list of beers I gave her, should be some nice tasting coming up :beerbang:

Pumpy,

I think your counselling service would rival that of Darryl Brohman's on the continuous call each weekend. I'll pass thanks

Duff ,

My stomach is the only thing resembling Darryl Brohman's .

thats ok you have enough 'Duffs Fresh wort kits 'on hand to indicate you have a 'Mashing problem'

either you have too much time on your hands, or you need a neighbour to help you frerment and drink it all !!!

With each month my brews vary between quantities and types of grains/hops used, but I'd estimate money spent on my ingredients varies from $40 - $80 a month. Equipment....... well that's impossible for me to put a figure on (average wise that is), since there was a month where I splurged out on Beer fridge, a keg setup, and an extra 3 kegs, but then not spent much at all on equipment other months. Besides, I'm a little too scared to work it all out, because I know I've spent more than I should.

Cheers :)

Probably about the $60 mark every month at the moment - until things calm down and i stop buying new yeast strains and different types of hops all the time, each batch is a bit different. Once i get under control with what styles i like and can do best, will probably get down to the $15 a batch mark, which would mean $15-30 a month as i brew every 2-4 weeks or so.

Luckily i don't have to spend much on equipment though, i like to keep the setup very simple and that suits me fine.

this is not a cheap hobby !!!!!

CraftBrewer donates me the hops & grain for research purposes :p

Gotta be some perks hey B)

Cheers Ross
