I have this can of coopers lager lying about, and a spare fermenter at the moment, so i was thinking of trying to make a high alch beer, how much dextrose will i be able to add before the standard yeast dies of alcohol poisoning?

My guess would be ~10% prolly a bit less with the standard yeast. lets see how close i am...

Maybe 10 if you're lucky but bear in mind it will taste awful long before that.

funny story:

when I first started out in homebrewing, my then GF;s favorite drink was a wander munich lager kit brewed with 2 Kg of white sugar.
I think it came out about 7.5% alc. Had too much residual sweetness for me, but it was popular....

I have improved the quality of brews and GF's in the years that have passed.... :)

Std yeasts will get you somewhere about 8% alc.
If you're just in it for the alc content tho, then you could get some turbo yeast - that should take it up to about 20% alc. Of course it will taste bloody horrible. :)

i put 1.5 kg of honey with my last coopers lager and acording to my readings it came out at 10.2%
at not too bad to drink either 2 long necks and your asleep :D

Benson this is intriguing...

Did you use the standard yeast? Did you add sugar as well? And how did you prime the bottles?
