So, I've finally stopped pulling my pud and put together a spreadsheet detailing precisely which parts I need for my rig. It's all coming from Geordi, as I've not found anyone that can beat them without calling a million suppliers and pretending to be a contractor in need of a pilot system with options on quantity. Only issue with Geordi, at this stage, is the price of their hosetails. I need eight hosetails, and in 1/2in, that'll cost me as much as the four valves. In 3/4in, it's quite a bit more expensive because of the surplus valves they've got that I'm salivating over. It's almost as cheap to do the whole thing in camlock. Since the price of the hosetails seems disproportionate to the rest of their stock, I'm wondering why. Anyway, does anyone know of a supplier who can supply eight 3/4in BSP to 3/4inOD hosetail in stainless for less than $10 each?

While I'm about it, the price of their compression fittings is POA. Ideally, the 3/4in bulkhead to compression is what I want, I'm about to email them for price, has anyone bought them before (and can tell me first), or does anyone know of another supplier.

From the words of wisdom I have received on here and some investigation I have done myself regarding the prices of SS fittings it seems that Geordi seems to be the cheapest.

Yes those valves in 3/4 look the goods on the surplus page however I am opting for 3 piece valves so I can take them fully apart for cleaning.

On the note of Camlocks.... if your budget is there to fit out with SS camlocks I would go that way, should give easy of use, easier to clean and brew porn factor.

Let us know how you go, am planning to get SS fittings all round in the future but the brewery budget at the moment won't stretch that far and I am getting frustrated not making AG already!!

EDIT: I just realised those valves in the surplus page are 3 piece aswell...interesting!!

The price of their hosetails is because they have them manufactured locally as far as I am aware (at least that's what I was told anyway). Hence the phenomenal cost. I can check my price with a couple of suppliers for 3/4 to 3/4 hosetails in the morning for you if you like, just send me an email to remind me to make a phonecall in the morning if you want.

Awesome, thanks Dom, email sent. Your thoughts RE their supply chain would explain a few more things besides the tails. Their sightglass fittings, for example.

Meanwhile, I'm also eventually going to need SS compression glands for thermowell mounting. Anyone seen a source for those?

from memory i bought some 1/2" hosetails from the Stainless place in Taren Pt (Sydney) for about $4. I think they buy wholesale from Prochem out west.

cheers

Gday LC

Brace youself mate if you think hosetails are expensive wait till you get a price on SS compression fittings, I got a quote up ere on the sunny coast for 1/2 bsp-1/2 tube compression fitting and they started for a straight one at $26 each , good luck mate let us know if you find any cheap ones.

P.s I was just casually walking through a local market the other week and i picked up three 1/2 male bsp-1/2tube SS comp fittings for $5 each i was friggin wrapped, gotta have a win sometimes, pays to keep your eyes open at those places.

Cheers

blimey. Is there a better way to attach a pickup tube to the inside of a bulkhead? My original plan was hosetails and silicone until I saw how much the hosetails were. Might have to go back to that plan.

thanks redbeard. I've been meaning to go to the stainless place in Taren Pt for a bit, but was going to skip it because I figured they'd not beat Geordi. Have to schedule that one in now.

Pok, $27.50 a pair x 8 pairs still puts it in the too expensive basket. If you manage to locate plastics that are food grade, will handle boiling and cost less than $15 a pair, I'll jump on it. Otherwise I'll be using the spanner for a few years.

I got all my stainless hosetails & elbows from these guys at Ingleburn.

Hosetails were about $4-$5 from memory.

I got my stainless compression fittings & 3-piece stainless ball valves from these guys a few doors down from them also at Ingleburn

http://www.tsvalves.com.au/

They were a bit pricier however & the compression fittings did cost about $26 from memory. I would recommend trying the first guys initially & seeing what they can do.

I just popped into Enzed in Unanderra and they had the 1/2 inch male threaded to 12mm hosetail in brass for $5.50. Sure, it doesn't have the bling factor, but was just what I needed to decant the kettle into my cube.
