My brother picked up the same scales for $2 plus postage not long ago.
It was possibly the cheapest thing I have bought on eBay to date. It even came with a calibration weight. Here is the link, at least until it expires.

$25 from Big W

Why the hell would you want one that can weigh less that 1g ? Thats one lightly hopped beer :p

and adding salts ect for water treatment

Many thanks for all the feedback. Probably the best way I can respond is to reply here to all of you individually... Just joking! ;)

Have only had a really quick scan through and have not examined any of the the links as yet. Damn pleased there are a few options out there less than eighty bucks!

The only comment I have at this stage is re the tolerance. I had in my mind that a 2 gram tolerance is no good for a 9 gram hop addition but just realised that the only reason I did 9 gram additions with Ross the other day was because we had to use 2 small pots to boil!

Thanks for the abundance of info above. I will look through it all and unless I impulse buy first, will let you know what I choose and whether the decision involved some logic!

Thanks again,
PP

I've an old Arlec digi scale 0-2000g in 1g increments. Checked it a couple of years back at the work's lab using their certified weights. Results were 1% error in the middle of the scale which was good. What was bad was the +/- 10% difference in the corners, (we check all balances each corner & the centre 3 times each test every week).
Modern technology may be better, but it can cost up to $1000 for an industry standard 0-3000g in 0.1g increments balance. Ya get what you pay for.

Absolutely - one needs very accurate and precise scales for this.

some nice items from that seller...

Looks like he learnt his lesson about low starting prices. All his stock is now listed with "Buy it now" prices, no auctions. Still, they look good and cheap. 250g with 0.1g accuracy delivered for $26 looks like a bargain!

I have a set of 0-5000g scales, in 1g increments. Cost me $50 from the good guys, brand is Heller.

Hey Barfridge, how long ago was that ? I was in there tonight and only ones I could find that would do 5kg with 0.1g increments were $80, less discount I guess, but it ain't going to be much. Brand wasn't Heller though.

Once again thanks for all the suggestions above. Ended up going for Chad's Ebay lik and bought these scales I couldn't resist the touch screen. Ordered Friday, arrived Monday.

It's a nice little unit I must say.

Some of the other suggestions above will be great when I get the need to purchase grain scales.

Cheers

Had a quick squiz at that link. Those scales would be mighty handy for weighing vegetative matter

Thats what they are used for... hops :p

... and cocaine

I'm a cheap bastard and bought some mechanical scales. They do 5g increments which is usually good enough. I should have spent the extra money, but these were only $8 or so from Victoria's Basement.

It's the "036" slimmers scale ones. The top bit probably fits about maximum 80g of pellets or about 35g of whole hops.

Works great :chug:

Interesting will have to have a geeze @ big w by the sounds of it.

Does anyone remember the brand name for the 2kg to 1kg one and is it a digital model?

Cheers.

A complete tight arse here. I got some mechanical ones from KMart last week. They only do up to 500g in 5g increments, but who cares for $5.
