Hey guys,

This is my first post on this site, and after having a pick through some other threads I think I am gonna spend I lot of my time here, looks great!!

I am just setting up equipment to start all-grain brewing, I am basically ready to go, but I am not sure where to buy grains from.

I live near Ivanhoe, in Melbourne. I have been to one brew shop that sells brewcraft grains, but the bags seemed quite small and expensive, and the range was not huge, although I dont have anything to compare them to. I have read a couple of books that go one about how cheap grain is though, and talk about a massive long list of varieties.

I am basucally wondering who the main suppliers of brewing grains are?

I realise that asking about the rough price of grain is a bit pointless, like how long is a peice of string, but I want to get onto a few suppliers so I can make sure I am not getting ripped off, and so I can get a graps on the true range before I decide on a recipe, and compare the quality of the grains.

Any info would be great.

Thanks

Pip

grain and grape in yarraville are great i use them heaps there sponsers of the site in the banner at the top, Ross at craftbrewer is also a great place for grains and hops (another sponser of AHB)

Yep, grain and grape are going to be your best bet. A link to their site is just above. Just make sure you phone in your grain order 24 hours in advance (as is possible) as they get quite busy with mail and regular orders, etc. Also, if you have a recipe and are unsure of what certain grains are, they're quite knowledgeable with substitutions and choices on domestic or imported grains (domestic is cheaper). They'll take care of you.

edit: oh, and welcome to AHB!

Hiding away unbeknowset to you is a little shop called Greensborough Homebrewing....22 Louis St Greensborough...

Go see dave there...he rocks, he knows his shit and has grain coming out of his socks. Stocks ALL types of grain and if dosnt have it he will order it for you, he will also sell Bulk.

His shops not as flash as Grain and Grape but his knowledge, service and attitude make up for it...Oh and his beer, lets not forget his beer!

Pip. Welcome aboard. Always good to have another nthn. 'burbs brewer. :beerbang:

Ditto what all of the above said. Also another point to add. If you're taking the plunge into AG it may be worth either joining or heading to a brewclub meeting and see what's involved. It's amazing how much help you'll gain and how far you'll go in a quicker time-frame. Plenty of experienced AGrs who will only be too willing to get you there too.

Worthogs would probably be your best bet in Ivanhoe. Try this email address. Plus I think Dave at Greensborough HB could point you to their meetings too.

Good luck with it all. :)
