Not exactly news, wasn't that done in the 1950-60's
Tho I believe GP was the only success from thousands of trials - induced nuclear mutations (shoving stuff in a reactor and seeing what survives) never did work all that well. Apparently its been replaced by a much more reliable and selective process called Genetic Modification - wonder if that will get into the news to?
