I made an experimental cider last week It consisted of:
6 litres of woolies apple juice
! kilo bag of frozen berries
0.5 kg of brown sugar
I sachet of brewers yeast (5gm)
It fermented out in about 5 days. FG was 1002. I did not take an OG as there was a lot of better mash in the container. Anyway, bottled it with Coopers drops and it is moderately carbonated after only one day.
It is strong. My guess is the apple juice contributed around 5%, the sugar another 3%. I am not sure of the berries, but this seems to have around 10%ABV. Brewed it for my daughter but I need to do the right thing, be a responsible dad and drink it myself. The taste is very nice, a little dry but no bad flavours.
Will do a larger batch next week and add a few more things like spices and ginger.
