Hey Guys,

A mate of mine can get second hand 50 litre kegs that coopers are gonna toss.

He is charging 30 bucks per keg and im wondering if there is a way of getting the spear out?

Ive been told they screw out but there is a clip holding them in.

Just wondering if its all really worth the effort.

All ideas are greatly appreciated.

Have a search for some instructions on this site.

If you think that you can lift a full 50litre keg into a fridge without buggering your back get them. Most home brewers use smaller kegs for this reason.

Yes,

I saw a post on here not that long ago about how to open the CUB ones. the way that they did it in the pictures was shit house. they used pliers to get the spear out after prying the circlip out with a screw driver. very amatuerish.

i have a detailed diagram with pics and sizes for tools that i will post when i return home.

I use them

Im not a big fella and i dont have a problem lifting them in.

If you have a freezer, just put your clean empty keg in the freezer, rack the beer to another empty keg outside and use gas to push it into the one in the freezer, through a filter if you plaese :p

they are the same as the tooheys kegs

cheers

I believe the coopers kegs are the same as the LN kegs.

Yeh you dont have to be big to lift 50kgs.

Ive sorted it out anyway froma previous post.

Its a piece of piss to do. Just crack the top to let the pressure out, the top is a right hand thread. And then you push the rubber part in with pliers and twist clockwise and in goes in the spear, easy as that.

time to clean and get boozie...

Thanks to all

Hate to rain on your parade but i would be very surprised if coopers is getting rid of kegs this way.Could be wrong but do get a certificate of ownership or something via coopers.
Last i heard was all beyond economical repair kegs get crushed and sold for scrap.

Cheers
Big D
