convert beer filter to charcoal water filter

hey all... I have a filter for beer, the normal housing you see for sale. I never filter my beer, I just don't need to; can you change the filter and convert to a charcoal water filter? Or should I sell and buy a purpose built unit?

I guess the conversion would depend on what is available to suit the filter housing you now have.
Are the connections in the beer filter you have compatible with regular house hold connections ?
And is the filter capable or rated for mains pressure use ?.
