Hey Brewheads,

Well it seems that the Coopers DIY Beer section is taking another hit in the Aussie market with their products being dropped by Coles, This, only a few months after Kmart dropped them too - the poor b'stards.

It looks like selected Woolworths and Big W are going to be the only places your average Joe Brew-Newb is going to be able to get his first kits and start his way down that slippery slope (not having found his LHBS yet).

Ah well, not much to do but pick up some kits at reduced-to-clear prices... it's Kmart all over again :p

Coles and K-Mart both owned by Wesfarmers so not surprising. Mind you these guys only drop products due to poor sales rates, unless of course they introduce a private label version to force it out. Not the case here.

Or they asked (demanded) for an advertising donation from Coopers that was declined. Thugs. Woolworths too.

Coopers sell direct for less than the supermarkets , perhaps they didn't like Coopers going online and selling direct with free delivery?

This is a grab off an email they sent me (I've been subscribed and a member for years)

As an avid brewer and loyal Coopers supporter, most of you would be aware that some Coles supermarkets no longer carry the full range of Coopers DIY Beer Products and in some cases they have completely delisted Coopers products from their shelves.
Coopers have, and will always, strive to supply quality brewing ingredients and accessories, and it is obviously our preference to make our products available as widely as possible to ensure easy access to them across Australia. However, the distribution and ranging of our products is often out of our control and the decision lies solely in the hands of the retail outlets.
You as the shopper have the most influence to overturn these types of decisions. If you are concerned about the deletion of Coopers and your other favourite products, we suggest you contact Coles directly via the following:
Email: [email protected]
Phone Number: 1800 061 562
(8.30am – 6.00pm Monday to Friday and 8.00am – 4.30pm on Saturday) - AEST
Fax Number: (03) 9829 3818
Postal Address:
Coles
PO Box 480
Glen Iris VIC 3146

Thank you for your continued support, feedback and loyalty, it is greatly appreciated.
Yours sincerely,
Coopers DIY Beer Team

"The fact that you are dropping the Coopers home brew products is nothing short of discussing, Coopers one of the rare all Australian owned companies deserves your respect amongst the thousands of products you stock from non Aussie companies and sell in your stores, shame!"

This is what I sent Coles via email, hope many do likewise. ( it's very hard to support a local brew shop South of Adelaide, only one shop- Brewcraft)

Cheers

I stopped in at Coles Indooroopilly on my way home from work and their whole brew section is already gone, no reduce to clear after-all. At least not in their case...

Coles customer care, what a joke. A fine of $11 million dollars for unconscionable behavior for screwing their suppliers still won't wake them up.
They care not about the customer, nor their workers who bust their arses on a daily basis to cope with their delusional demands. I work for these arseholes & have so for 13.5yrs & hate every god damn minute of it. They suck & I am desperately trying to find a way out of the most horrific job I have ever had. I've been warned about publicly mentioning the company on Facebooks memes but stuff em, I would quit on the spot if given the chance. They hide behind clever marketing campaigns & celebrity wankers to make you believe that we're one big happy family & it's a great place to work, bullshit! We do a we're listening survey once a year where you can anonymously vent your frustrations towards the company & the survey shocked management. 94% of employees at our store are actively seeking other employment. Oh, yeah, we're listening my arse. Stick to your local HBS to find the Coopers gear & don't give any of these greedy mongrels your money, they don't deserve it.
Sorry for the rant but I'd rather sit on the lounge & stick ******* toothpicks in my eyes than go to work tomorrow.

Sounds like the response I got from Coles when I emailed them about their no longer stocking lard.

I wonder if the current shrinkage of lines is something to do with Aldi (God Bless their little hearts and arseholes) cutting into their market, with a the vastly reduced range of product.

At the end of the day if Coles and Woolies shed a lot of lines to conform more to the Aldi model it might help specialist shops like delicatessens and LHBS.

Its already helping IGA around here I think. We've transitioned from Woolies to IGA because Woolies just doesn't stock any of the brands that we like/want.

Used to be we did an IGA shop once a month, and a weekly woolies shop, but as the "deletions" got greater, we started doing the IGA shop weekly, and now its really only Woolies for the big bulky but cheaper items.
