Hi again AHBs. I have an extract recipe that says to 'cold steep' 300g of Crystal Malt Grain, is cold steeping ok? I thought these grains were usually hot steeped at 70degrees? What's the difference? Also, can I then use that liquid for a 60minute hop boil?
Thanks all.

Cold steeping cracked grain works fine. Takes longer, can be smoother. Hot steeping is also fine. Boil the resulting liquid with hops and enough dme to hit 1030-1050 in either case.

Cheers mate but how do I do that, I'm doing a big hop boil, don't have any DME, is dextrose ok, how much approx. thanks again.

I would buy some DME. Malt is better for the hop boil than dextrose. 100g dme (dried malt extract) in 1 L of water will give around 1040. You'll get a bit extra from your grain steepings so you could drop it back to around 80 per litre.
