Hi,

Would anyone know what the equation is to calculate the Thermal Mass of a mash tun ??? Turns out that the equation for calculating the temperature required for a given volume of hot liqour needs the Thermal Mass of the mash tun as an input.

Any help will be gratefully appreciated

Cheers,
David

Never mind. Found it here this morning.... (I think) :beerbang: :beerbang:

I think you mean 'specific heat capacity' as thermal mass has no units and cannot be calulated, its more like a substance that can hold heat energy. Specific heat capacity is a measure of the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of a material by n degress. You may also be talking about the thermal capacity, to calculate specific heat capacity... actually just look at this website.

The thermal capacity is the specific heat capacity of a metal * its density.

Hope this helps. Although it sounds like you have figured it out already.
