I work in the stainless industry and couldn't recommend anything 0.5mm thick be used for any thing long term. I know this isn't going to be used for industrial use but not sure how it would hold up long term

Thanks Dave,

I suppose thats why it is so cheap.
Better to spend some more and get better quality.

Cheers

I have a 50 litre s/s crab cooker, purchased 4 years ago to use as a kettle. Now using it as a mash tun .I cant comment on how thick the base is, but I would say it is around 0.5mm. (it feels thin) I haven't had any problems at all with mine, even using it with my 23 jet mongolian burner. If you only plan to use it for a mash tun, then I would be happy to use it. It looks to be a good value mash tun.
You have to consider how often you are brewing as to how much value you get and how long term considerations come into it. If you are brewing 4 times a week, invest in something a bit better. If you are brewing once a fortnight, it will probably outlast you.
My opinions - you decide whats right for you.
Cheers

I have a cheapo 40 litre stainless kettle I bought from an Asian grocer about 4 years ago which I use for my single batches. Cost about $40 and it has seen plenty of use. It's really thin and has a few rust stains on the outside of the pot (you get what you pay for), but I can see it going strong in another 4 years.

My 70 litre kettle is also on the cheaper side and is a downright feckin lemon.

Both my 40 and 70 litre kettles are cheap. My next purchase will be something that will last me a long time. I guess you have to weigh up what you are really expecting from your product.
