Hey guys,

trying to remove/reseat a beer out post on my corny and the shifters/spanners I have are too big, the moulded plastic gets in the way and I just can't remove them at all. Is there any specific size / specific tool I need to use to get them off? maybe like a socket or something? anyone know what size as I will go to bunnings tomorrow and get it.

cheers.

According to morebeer, there are two sizes: 7/8" (22.2mm) and 11/16" (17.5mm). I assume that's for the ball lock (pepsi) fittings as my pin lock (coke) kegs are 13/16". Whatever size you need, make sure you buy the deep socket.

All my kegs are 7/8",just a ring spanner fits most. Some times they are dinged up a fair bit,as newguy said using a socket fixes that.
Oh and the socket will negate the rubber ;)
Cheers

Ring spanner here. 7/8 or 11/16.

Cheers,
Greg

Just an addition, can not remember but one side requires a 12 point socket on at least some kegs.

Yeah get yourself a ring-spanner.
I originally went looking for a socket, but was hard-pressed to find one deep enough to fit the whole post inside.

Take a post with you if you can, but (from memory!) the one I bought was a 22mm jobbie. I already had a 17 or 18mm spanner for the kegs that used the smaller posts.

i use a ring spanner , cant recall the size at moment , one of the obove imperial sizes im sure

I just purchased long sockets (I can't remember the sizes - find them on Morebeer) from a local tool supplier. Much easier than fiddling around with spanners as these fit perfect, great for those kegs with the funny 12point posts.

edit - They were about $20ea btw.

most decent ring spanners will also have a 12 point double hex ..

Yeah but you can only turn them about 1cm or you hit the rubber on the keg! A deep/tall socket fits straight over the top and clears everything. I'll admit it's not the cheapest option, but IMO is the best tool to remove posts from a keg.

Yes, a 7/8" deep socket is the easiest way.

Forget about Bunnings though. Go to an auto parts store, they stock them.

I got mine from Burson Auto Parts

I have 4 cornies with the 2 different posts , star and hex.I went on a yankee site and they said a 13/16 and a 7/8, so I bought the 2 deep sockets from Auto One for 15 and 19 bucks got home the 13/16 did not fit either and the 7/8 fits both with a little play not really what I would call a snug fit, maybe that might be the difference between A/F and Whitworth as the sockets just have the size but not type so I am assuming they are Whitworth sockets.
All in all at least I can get my money back for one and claim the other one on this years tax return, but dont go to Super Cheap they only have them in sets.

Deep sockets are only 6 point though? I don't recall seeing 12 point deep sockets, in 3/8 or 1/2 inch drive anyway.

No, the one I got was a 12 -point deep socket. Came in 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive. Fits perfectly over the 12 and six point connectors on the keg (gas in = 12, beer out = six).

Is this what you mean?;

Mine are 12 point?... As I said though, I had to go to a tool shop to get them, local hardware stores (and automotive too) didn't have anything suitable.

sorry Arthur but I have a diesel, any way at Auto 1 KINCROME DS78C KIN-SOCKET DEEP 1/2DR 7/8"

I got a couple of ring spanners that do the job. 18mm for one type and a 22mm for the star- lookin ones. Was happy to buy a cheap little set from Supercheap Auto that had both these sizes in it for about $10.
