I was down at Brewboys this evening and they had an old Pabst video from 1939 running in the background. Anyway, it went through some of their advertising material and SWMBO commented that the ads had women in them which is not something you really see these days. The basic scenario in the ads was a husband and wife sitting down to dinner over a beer, which definitely happens (at least at our place) but is not something you would associate with beer advertising these days.

So, we were wondering when beer ads stopped including women. Our guess was that it might have happened during WW2 due to shortages.

Any ideas?

Have you been paying attention to beer ads at all? There have been plenty with women.

...although none that depict women as a market - just another product.

Yeah, that's what I meant. When did it change from "enjoying a beer with a woman" to "drink this beer and you will get women"?
