Try the ol John Palmer quoted in your sig
"Batch Sparging is a U.S. homebrewing practice where the full volume of sparge water is mixed into the mash. The grain bed is allowed to settle, and then the wort is drained off. The re-circulation step in this process takes place in the first minutes of the sparge. You can use more than one batch of water if you need to. This method differs from the English method in that the mash is not held for any significant time at the saccharification temperature before draining.

Continuous Sparging usually results in better extractions. The wort is re-circulated and drained until about an inch of wort remains above the grain bed. The sparge water is gently added, as necessary, to keep the fluid at least at that level. The goal is to gradually replace the wort with the water, stopping the sparge when the gravity is 1.008 or when enough wort has been collected, whichever comes first. This method demands more attention by the brewer, but can produce a higher yield."

and the sparge arm looks like this:

Haha, I was sure I'd not read it there Mike...doh, doh, triple doh! :D

Plus I'm at work, it is almost 5pm and I have not had a beer for 17 hours   :(

A good question Finger. I wrote up some notes on batch sparging some time ago and have PM'ed them many times. Apparently they made things clearer for many but I still think they need some tidying up.

If I get some time tonight and have a few beers, I'll tidy them up and, with a few more beers, maybe gain the confidence to post them to the forum.

They might cause some debate as they favour batch sparging. To create further debate, I'll make sure I edit them heavily to favour BIAB when it comes to those starting out in AG - lol!

PLEASE :( not the batch over fly debate AGAIN <_< .
Did I mention I batch :D . Sorry, off topic again.

Sorry Finger, just got your email. OK, give me an hour and I'll post some notes on batch sparging etc. They are bloody long though!

Well it took me a little longer than I thought but I've had a crack. Couldn't find the PM that Steve from Tokyo sent me on why batch sparging makes sense. I'll look again tomorrow.

The thread I posted with Dutch courage is this one

I think I'll run away now as even I got confused on it. I hope it will inspire you to do full batches of BIAB - lol!!!

;)
