OK, I started with the dry yeast page and added to it. However, it needs some editing to make it comprehensive. First it needs a 'how to make a starter' section for the liquid yeast part, and a 'yeast strain to style' section for liquids as well.

I think expanding the topic from "dried yeast" to "yeast" is going to make the thing too unwieldy, that is the reason I started out with dried yeast only. I'm happy to run with it, but I just think adding all that info on liquid yeasts + styles is really better suited to its own Wiki topic. We'll see.

Added some more info, maybe it would be better to split the topics...

Added S33 stuff too, had a bit of experience with that one. Now if i can work out how to use tables...

I decided to merge the two ideas to see how it will go. Once the article is comprehensive, it will be constructive to have a discussion here about whether to split it into three topics- general yeast info (which I began at the top), dry yeast and liquid yeast.

Perhaps there needs to be discussion about how to determine when a topic gets too large?

DJR - you have posted heaps about yeast on this board in the past. I look forward to downloading your brain on the subject! :p

Looks like most people have forgotten about the Wiki again already...

It could be a 'hype curve'. It is when something new starts slowly then a change makes it take off. It goes really well for a time then when people have gotten use to it and find it is not quite what they though interest or favour drop right back and then it starts to build as everyone understand it and like it for what it is.
This applies to a lot of IT and I think Kevin Rudd has just started to drop back. No doubt Howard will try to call an election when Rudd bottoms out before slowly rising again.
I hope the Wiki will slowly get to a critical mass and brewers will start to add all sorts of tit bits like the best recipe for a yeast, the nuances of different gains or brew enhancers or what ever. If some of us can put in the hard yards we will get there sooner.

Yeah, it's a matter of putting in the work- I try to add stuff, but am not sure exactly what articles to start. The 'suggesting articles' thread could be good or bad- either it will serve as inspiration and a way for people to say what they want, or a way for people to get others to do what they should- I hope it will be the former.

Just added some style-guidelines for Wyeast. The list is nowhere near definitive and could do with some formatting as well. It's a start.

Added a link to full details for Wyeast strains, on the Wyeast Labs site....

and did a little formatting of the list.

not being an accountant, can we start to referring to yeasts as their code number and their name?! Makes sense to say Belgian Wit yeast rather than product number to me.

Fixed broken link to old Wyeast website. The new website has much more detail on matching yeast strains to beer styles.
