I
can get clean 750ml bottles out my way (eastern suburbs) for $1 each ($0.75 dirty). So I would need a cheaper price to make it worth my while.

Try you local reception venue.
The sunday morning after a wedding I use to collect 50+ tallies that had only been drunk the night before.
On my third visit the manager gave me 6 full tallies for saving him the money of having to pay the glass recyclers to come and collect his used bottles.

thats where i got all my champagne bottles from , i didnt ask them for beer bottles but im sure they wouldve given them to me if id asked...
