I have come across a couple of cubes that have had dishwashing detergent in them. They are marked with a number 3.
Is this food grade? Can I use them or just turf them out.
I figure if they held detergent in them then they should be safe after a good wash as long as they are food grade.
Anyone know?

cheers

Is this number 2 the number that appears inside a triangular recycle symbol made of arrows?
I was curious, because the plastic containers in my fridge at the moment containing, milk, cheese yogurt etc have either 1 2 or 3 printed on the bottom. Surely all these would be food grade?

Here are the codes and meaning:
1 = Polyethylene Terephthalate
2 = High Density Polyethylene
3 = Vinyl
4 = Low Density Polyethylene
5 = Polypropylene
6 = Polystyrene
7 = OTHER - all other resins and multi-materials

Their purpose is to assist collectors with sorting the collected plastics by material type. They do not necessarily indicate that the product can be recycled or is made from recycled content. So I guess you need to consider the containers original use. High Density Polyethylene (2) tends to be used for food grade
