Recently came by a 50 litre fermenter as it was for sale with some other things I wanted that were sold as 1 lot.

My question is can I brew 23 litres in it? If not, is it just for brewing 46 litres as I'm not averse to doing that.

Theroretically, you could brew a 23 litre batch in a 5000 litre fermenter, providing the conditions are right for the yeast and the thing is sanitary.

I don't think 23 litres would work very well in a 5000 litre vessel, I can't even imagine how you would get it out witout getting all the trub as well :)

23 L in a 50 L however I believe would be no problem at all, or you could bulk it up by a few more litres and get a full 3 cartons of stubbies out of a brew. Or if you have no aversion to brewing 46 litres..... DO IT!!! when you think about it that's not even a months worth of beer at a 6 pack a day.

I said theoretically. It could be 500ft tall with an OD of just 90cm. It could work. You're taking it literally :p

My point was, it'll work fine.

I do it often, Doing it now. All will be fine.

Cheers guys.

Going to put 2 separate brews on in that case. Stout for me and SWMBO is going to do a pear cider for herself. Any suggestions for the cider would be a help. Going to do the stout recipe on my other thread.

Also it's good to know the pi$$ taking is taken in good humour. It's one of my favorite things, lol.
