I would not mind tracking down a couple of 1/2" SS BSP compression fittings. Geordi Stainless and T&S valves do not stock this type of item - I was going to give a group like pirtek etc a buzz.. However has any one come across this type of fitting in their travels.

Pirtek will probably be expensive for that style fitting. Also try Prochem

Is a compression fitting the same as a "male connector"? used for attaching a pipe to a fitting like a ball valve or whatever? I got some stainless ones from T&S Valves a few weeks ago to connect a pickup tube.

Looks like this and has an "olive" inside to connect the pipe.

Let me know if you have no luck finding any , I have a few here.
NPT not BSP but it will not matter the thread is almost the same, both fit each other no problem.

can anyone educate me as to what a "compression fitting" looks like? does that encompass a whole range of fittings or one specific?

I take it that it's nothing like a male connector?

Prochem sell Gyrolok(Practically the same as swagelok) twin ferrule/olive fittings but you have to sign a disclaimer that you are not going to use to manufacture a weapon of mass destruction(or knowingly supply somebody else)......I wish I was kidding. Bearing that in mind you may find some reluctance in the supply of the fittings. I would suggest a walk in purchase rather than a telephone call or you may be fobbed off. Take a diagram or picture and the cats at the trade desk will sort you out.

From memory 1/2"NPT Male fitting to suit 1/4" G316 Instrument tubing was about $9.00(+GST). They do have two ferruls that must be installed in the correct orientation and the nut is nipped up 3/4 a turn after it is finger tight(Sort of like an oil filter ;) )

I hope this helps..

No affiliation other than I have used them at work, Swagelok may be better for all I know.

 blackwoods also have a pretty good range not sure of prices

Thanks for the responses lads,

I will start contacting some of these companies in the next day or so.

Google search returned the following.........

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compression_fitting

Thanks chilla. I did a google search already and couldn't find the answer as to whether it was a specific fitting or a range of fittings.

eg The pic on that page looks suspiciously like my male connector which must be a type of compression fitting.

I'd like to know also.

Wally.

Wally, this link seems to explain it better..... if compression fittings are specifically for joining two pipes together...

I guess now we half-know.......sort of <_<

I have had no problem with Prochem in Adelaide and a quick phonecall is all it takes to order the parts - no affiliations.

I have bought part 6CM8-316EC which is a 9.5mmOD x 15BSPT Connector Male Gyrolock 316 and the cost is $19.50 + GST.

I bought 2 for my CFWC which is 3/8 inch copper tube so I can connect quick disconnects to it.

lads,

headed to t&S Valves for a couple of extra ss ball valves. They too offer a range of compression fittings - called TS-lock - they appear reasonably priced for what you are buying.

The compression nut squeezes the olive (plastic in this case) onto the copper pipe. Another variation is the flare fitting which requires a flared end on the copper pipe.

finally.

thanks sosman.

and if i remember i will take and post a picture of a stainless steel swaglok compression fitting which is a bit different than the one sosman posted.the lok part is two parts.

cheers
