    Bittering Vs Flavour

I get that in the boil you extract bitterness and kill flavour. Then at flame out you get the flavours but are still also getting bitterness above 85c. So my question is are you still getting the same amount and quality of flavour between 99c and 85c that you would get below 85c? Cheers, UNT

    Columbus

I feel Columbus can over power my IPA but I do not want to remove it completely. What ratio would you all use it for flavour in the whirlpool with Centennial and Simcoe? Cheers, UNT

    Missing Wort

My water in minus loss to grain, minus loss to boil, minus racked to cube is consistently 1.5 litres under in the kettle. I have rechecked and rechecked my markings on the kettle and they are accurate. I have measured the water going in one 5 litre jug at a time. My starting volume and loss...

I am going to mash today and boil tomorrow as I have heard you can do that! Is there anything I need to do differently to normal or look out for? Cheers, UNT

    Alpha versus Flavour

    According to BeerSmith2 with no hops in the boil and all added at flame out; * 20min steep/whirlpool above 80c = 45 IBU's * 30min steep/whirlpool above 80c = 57 IBU's * 40min steep/whirlpool above 80c = 65 IBU's Am I also getting more hop flavour with longer steep/whirlpool or just more...

    Efficiency

I have always felt my BIAB BH efficiency is very low in the 50's when you hear everyone talking about 70's and 80's! But wonder if I am calculating it correctly? For example, using this calculator - https://www.brewersfriend.com/brewhouse-efficiency/ - I mash 5kg of Pilsner in 28 litres of...

    Water Aeration

This could be my stupidest question yet so look out! When i'm filling my urn on brew day to mash and boil as I do in the single vessel. Should I be careful not to overly aerate the water or does it not matter before the gran hit's it? Cheers, UNT

    Gas Manifold

So I've managed to drill holes in the fridge for taps and trip tray, but attaching my 4 way gas manifold on the inside has me stumped! Should I drill right through or is there a better way to attach it to the inside without making more holes in the fridge? Cheers, UNT

    Bottling from Keg

I am interested in the best way to bottle from the keg and maintain carbonation. I have a counter pressure PET bottle filler thing from keg king and it's great if you leave it on the bottle until you want to drink it. But that is not practical for a dozen or so! So I am wondering what the beer...

    Air Lock Tightness

I am just about to brew and I have noticed the rubber grommet for my air lock is broken. I tried to work around it but busted it more! So now I am debating sticking the air lock in loose or wrapping some tape around the base to seal it? Or holding off until I can get a new one tomorrow...

    Grain Scales

I am about to start bulk buying and home crushing my grain and was wondering what people use for scales to weigh up? Are regular bathroom scales ok or is there a better solution? Cheers, UNT

    Citra

I've drank a few different commercial beers tonight that are either heavy on the Citra or only Citra and they are all syrupy and banana flavoured and lacking any bright, sharp, citrusy bitterness! Is this to be expected? Cheers, UNT

    New England IPA

They say the New England IPA is everywhere these days, but I see little evidence of it? There seems to be no mention of the style here Beer Styles forum and I see little to none of it in my local craft beer bottle shops? What I have tasted I have really liked, so I would like to know more...

    No Chill Versus Chill?

It has recently been suggested to me that chilling my wort down to fermentation temp as quickly as possible after my late hop additions will make a significant difference to the freshness of my hop flavours with my hoppy beers. Can anyone who has moved from no chill to chill confirm or deny...

    Hop Stabilisation

I amped up the hops in my recent IPA by doubling my late additions from 120g to 240g and after 5 days in the keg I thought I'd gone too far as it was so hoppy! This remained pretty stable for the next 2 weeks and I then went away for 3 weeks. On my return the beer had now been in the keg 5...

    Carbonation Control

There seems to be a VERY fine line between under carbonated and over carbonated. I like a decent carbonation in my pale ales and IPA's but just can't quite seem to hit it. I leave my kegs for a week at 15psi and they are pretty good, but never quite as carbonated as I would like. If I bump it...

    Keezer Vs Kegerator

A friend who set up a great keezer last year was disappointed to have it break down and has since been advised that freezers are not designed to run at such a high temp and will always eventually fail. However, it seems many people here graduate from a Kegerator to a keezer and experience no...

    Fridge Drilling

I would like to drill a hole in the side of my kegarator to keep the gas bottle outside but it seems to be more complicated than drilling holes in the door! It's a 120 litre upright all fridge Westinghouse. Any tips? Thanks, UNT

    Kegerator Time

Ok, it's time. Out with the picnic taps and in with the Perlick SS flow control taps. But I am a little scared I am going to **** it all up cause I am not a very experienced tool guy. It's a pretty regular (no freezer) fridge and I plan to install 3 taps. I am looking at youtube videos and...
