    Non return valves

I've recently noticed a little beer in my gas lines, which got me thinking about non-return valves. But forking out $25-30 each for the ones on Craftbrewer don't really appeal to me as I'll need 3, and considering I just bought a Robobrew I don't really want to drop $90 on valves. I did find...

For trade - Copper immersion chiller (Pennant Hills, NSW)

Will swap for a few of your finest. Got this from another member a while ago, never got about to using it, happy enough with no-chilling at present. Well, at least until I get myself a GrainFather...

Beer economy - 330mL swingtop bottles (Pennant Hills, NSW)

Surplus to my needs. 45 x 330mL Flensburger bottles. They're all fairly clean, but I'm guessing, like me, anyone who takes them would give them a good wash anyhow. They're in good nick, seals are all good. Will trade for 6 bottles of your finest. Pick up from Pennant Hills (late...

Temp probe for HLT and HERMs

OK So I've got a STC-1000 coming which I've plans to use for a budget HERMs rig (yes, I know a PID controller would be better, which I may do later) My question is... Would I be better of getting a screw in temp probe, I can permanently attach to my HLT (like this -...

Woolies - $10 off James Squires @ BWS

No sure if any one else has come across this. The last couple of times I've shopped at Woolies I've grabbed something from the deli ($1.90 worth of ham one time). When I checked out, I had printed on the bottom of my receipt a little voucher for BWS. $10 off a 6 pack of James Squires OR $10...

1st go at an IPA - thoughts?

I've got a stack of empty bottles hanging around which could do with filling, so going to work on my small batch (15L) brews, to get some variety happening. I've not done an IPA before so thought I'd start with that. 15L 4kg Pale Ale Malt 0.5kg Light Munich 0.4kg Torrified Wheat 0.2kg Crystal...

WLP039 - WhiteLabs East Midlands Ale (Nottingham?)

Any one else used this recently. I split a vial and made up a starter, then pitched it into a SMaSH pale ale at 17 deg OG=1.054 last Thursday night, set the fridge to 18.5 deg. By Saturday it was down to 1.014. Holy crap that was quick.

    Whale Ale yeast.

Anyone tried to recondition and use it in a brew? Another thread has it as a proprietary blend of 2 British Ale yeasts, which I thought was odd for an American Wheat beer.. Sent from my Samsung S3 using Tapatalk.

Cleaning your elements - no scrub method?

I'm always looking on ways to make my life easier, especially when it comes to cleaning up after a brew day. My current rig is a 40L aluminium pot with twin $8 kettle (2200w) elements. (I'm guessing they're nickel coated copper, someone correct me if I'm wrong) My current cleaning regime is to...

Allowing for mash heat loss - Beersmith

I'm using Beersmith 1.4 currently. On my new brew rig I'm losing approximately 4 degrees over a 60 minute mash, which is far from ideal. Is there a way to allow for heat loss during the mash? I was thinking about having a step at the 30 minute mark to bring the mash back up to temp, but this...

    Stir-Bar bulk buy anyone?

So I've built myself a fancy schmancy DIY stir plate. Looking around for Stir-bars I've been pretty surprised at the prices, much higher than I assumed. I've managed to get myself an account at Livingstone Lab Supplies, who have very reasonable prices, but shipping on 1 or 2 stir-bars is 3...

    Free: Fermentation cool box

Getting rid of my fermentation box. Built this before I had a second fridge to ferment in. Swap in/out frozen coke bottles in the bottom. Just needs a little pc fan and an stc-1000 to complete it. (I moved the fan and stc to my ferment fridge, and binned the power supply, heat pad also not...

    BBQ bits related question

Some time ago I purchased a nice Stainless Steel (430 grade) BBQ off eBay. Got a good price, and it's worked great, and continues to work great. My problem is that as with all BBQ's some of the parts are starting to deteriorate. The flame tamers were aluminimum so have basically rusted through...

    2 X Beer Taps/faucets For Sale

Hey all, I've got 2 x taps for sale. They are very similar to the Chrome Micromatic taps that Craftbrewer sell except they also have a black plastic spout making the spout longer. Only selling as I've just upgraded to the Perlick 545PC flow control taps (which are awesome I might add)...

Hop Plants - Free To Good Home

Hi all, I have 2 x 3rd year hop plants both years have had good growth but they have to grow in the front yeard and look a bit crap, so I'm ending my foray into growing hops. They were going to go to a mate, but said mate has just had a 2nd child and alas has no time for growing hops. One...

    Pid Controller (rex-c100) Vs Stc-1000

So I was looking into building a DIY Sous Vide and a few of the guides mention using a PID controller like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/110834647581?ss...984.m1423.l2649 What I'd like to know is what's the difference between using one of these and using an STC-1000 like I have on my...
