My plan is to save on yeast by making a yeast starter and then splitting in half, pitch half and save half for the next batch.... What do you think if the best size flask? and where is the best place to purchase it? :beerbang: :beerbang: :beerbang:

It depends on a few things such as what size of starter you require for your brew and what yeast you're using for your starter. Some yeasts produce krausen when making a starter and can overflow and go everywhere.

I have a 250ml flask to start the step up from small amounts and then once I need to start stepping up big I then use a 3 litre flask and both of these seem sufficient for me.

Can't give advice on buying them as I live in Scotland but I found I had to really shop around and I eventually got them cheap from a science equipment place that supplies schools. Amazon and eBay were about three times the price.

I had the same thought.
I use white labs 001 and it's 12 bucks a pop. I make a starter and split it into 4 then use 1 then dump the next batch onto the yeast bed.
1 vial makes 4 starters that make 2 brews each. That's 8 brews for 12 dollars.

Plenty of good info about splitting fresh yeast. Look for 'splitting yeast' or somesuch by wolfy.

As for buying flasks, Craft Brewer sells them. Not sure if they ship to Vietnam though...
