Inspired by the Imperial Mild that Brew Dog are running at the moment, please give me your suggestions for the simultaneously tastiest and lowest ABV beer you have ever brewed.

Inspired by the same, this beer certainly surprised a few on how low the Alc was & high the IBU's were.
Drank really well. Fermented out over night - Could have gone grain to brain in 24 hours.

Mmm.. Im all over that like a fat kid on a cupcake.

Were the first runnings even sugary enuf to make a syrup?

I remember trying some of that, it was great.

I lurved that one Ross. The recipe certainly doesn't give up it's finished characteristics. Might have to brew this one myself as a quick keg filler?

Loved the beer as well Ross. Would be nice to have that many hops to play around with ;)

But definitely giving something similar a go sometime soon....

Cheers

Another candidate for high mashing and low alc tasty beer is English Modern Summer Ales, I was looking through last years State comp results and reminded myself that I got a bronze with one. Might put in something similar this year
Pre Beersmith so manual recipe only:

3000 Golden Promise TF Floor malted
250 Polenta
250 Carapils

70 degrees 60 minutes

30 Target
30 EKG 60 mins
15 Styrians 10 mins

1469 ah those were the days. No sugaz, now that's a first :p

I think it came out about 2.8% and of course I have a genuine recycled BribieG photo. Very nice lawnmower and guests loved it (thought it was a lager which is why Summer bitters were invented)

My milds turn out at just on 3%, and are very tasty. I had one on at the BRBD, and one on at one of the last RAF's.

Scotch finger mild

75.5% Trad
5.7% pale choc
3.6% Carafa 3
7.6% Caramunich 3
7.6% Biscuit

Whitbread

1.038
18 IBU ( doesnt matter which hop )
3.5%

The biscuit is a great malt.

Nowhere near as hoppy as ross', but its my fave mild recipe. Need to brew it again.

Easy maize. Crisp clean clear light bodied beer, an alternative to ricez.

I think he means why maize when you are mashing at 70 for full body and only making a 3% beer, ie you don't need maize to get a light body in a 3% beer.
I thought it strange myself.

I had a crack at this a while ago, oh god its bitter! like a evil tomcat jumping down your throat clawing your tongue bitter! Plenty of flavours, but oooooh  . Had one tonight actually, only got through half a glass, was just too much, which is strange because when i tried it at chappo's brewday few months back, it was very nice and hardly as bitter... i must be just a shit brewer! lol
If i were to make it again, id probably reduce the sheer amount of hops, to make it more sessionable. That or have a bigger grainbill.
Still.... whatever Rossco does to it makes it very nice, so nice infact that after 3 glasses i was trying to rub his leg... at least i think that was his leg

He does mean that.

Gotta say I really don't get these OTT bitter beers. I have made plenty of "American" milds and find that around 26 IBUs and 2-3g/L of late hops is about right to keep things in balance. Recipes that boost the IBUs just seem to offset that by also boosting the malt, which seems sort of unneccessary to me. Just a good way to spend more $$$ on the recipe! Just my 2c though! :p

:beerbang: amen
